Walmart can be great for almost anything, especially coupon deals, but if you’re really looking to save there are certain things that you will want to stay away from at Walmart. Why? Because they’re cheaper at other stores with a coupon deal! Take a look at these 10 items to never buy at Walmart before you make your next shopping list out.
12 Items to Never Buy at Walmart
Diapers
While Walmart might have great everyday prices, typically you can find a better deal on diapers at the drugstores like CVS or Walgreens. The key with diapers is to compare the Price Per Diaper based on the size, because every size has a different number of Diapers the price per diaper will change as your child gets older.

Baby Wipes
Just like diapers, wipes are usually cheaper at the drug stores with a coupon deal.
Paper Towels
I can almost always buy Paper Towels cheaper on Amazon.com or in stores at CVS and Target when I can find a great deal. If you only have the option of Shopping at Walmart then check the prices online, you might be surprised at how much you can save. Amazon always has great Subscribe and Save Deals, you can save up to 15% off your purchase when you buy 5 items in the same month.
Toilet Paper
This is another staple that I buy on Amazon most of the time, or when Target runs a gift card deal you can often find a good deal. CVS and Walgreens are also great sources for stocking up on Toilet Paper if you can find the right sale. Rarely have I bought Toilet Paper at Walmart in the last 7 years unless I had a high value coupon that I could use on a small size. The larger packages aren’t as good of a deal when you compare the per unit price. Make sure you Download the Stockpiling Price List to get my Buy Price on Toilet Paper so you can compare per unit and find the best deals!
Toothpaste
A deal seeker knows that you should never pay much for toothpaste and if you buy it at Walmart? Chances are you will. Instead, check the drug store deals or hit up Dollar Tree with a coupon.
Toothbrushes
Chances are if you watch the sales? You can use a coupon to pick up your toothbrushes totally free at stores like CVS, Walgreens & Rite Aid! Even Target occasionally runs gift card deals where you can score Free or really cheap Toothbrushes
Cosmetics
Unless you’re going for Wet & Wild brand, wait until CVS or Wags has a sale and use a coupon with their customer rewards to get the best price. You can also shop your favorite online stores and typically find better deals.
Milk & Eggs
You’re going to think I’m nuts here but 9 times out of 10, you’ll find that milk can be picked up cheaper by stopping at your local….gas station. I have seen multiple station “brands” that all carry milk for much less than what you will pay at Walmart. Aldi or Braums are also great locations for picking up Milk for less than Walmart. This is one of those things that can really depend on your area, so check around for the best price, you might be surprised! Our CVS and Walgreens are frequently the best price on Milk and Eggs when they have a sale running.
Rice
At Walmart, you’ll pay somewhere around $0.80 per pound, but buy it in bulk at Costco and you’ll save big over time. It may seem like a small amount at first, but small cents add up over time.
Food Storage Bags
Need to grab a box of Hefty bags? Don’t buy them at Walmart. Instead, head to your local Dollar Tree. You can grab them for $1.00 per box regular price. Have a coupon? You’ll get them even cheaper. We recently had a Glad Storage Bags Coupon that made them FREE at The Dollar Tree!
Dish Liquid
Here’s another one that is cheaper at Dollar Tree than at Walmart. The 9oz bottles will cost you around $1.00 at Walmart, but you can buy a bottle almost double the size at Dollar Tree for the same price. You can also find these on sale at CVS and Walgreens about every other week. Stack with a coupon for a fantastic price!
Pet Food
This one can be kind of iffy, but if you watch the sales and coupons? Pet food is often cheaper at the Target when there’s a gift card deal running or even online at Amazon.com. With the right coupon deal, you may even be able to score it free! Check out all the recent Pet Food Coupons Here.
With the right coupon deals, Walmart can be great to shop at, but it isn’t always the end all be all of deals. Make sure that you’re looking for coupons to go with the items you want and that your before coupon price or sale is lower than the Walmart regular price. Keeping those things in mind and you’ll save more than you normally would!
I cannot agree about the ziplock bags. I’ve tried the dollar tree bags and the zip pulls away from the bag, many times on the first zip across.
With the excrption on one item…your list bologne!
