If you have more than one child then there is a good chance you’ve been through the process of selecting a double stroller, and you probably know that it can be a confusing process. I recently had to decide on a double stroller and I spent a lot of time researching which one would work best for our situation. There are so many options out there that I thought it might be helpful if I give you my take on the New 2010 Joovy Caboose Ultralight Stroller.
The Caboose Ultralight stroller has several features that make it ideal for a mom with 2 kids. There is a front section for holding a younger child and a rear section where an older child can sit and be buckled in or stand and ride. I want to cover the features of the Joovy Caboose Ultralight individually so you can get a good feel for how this stroller works and if it would be a good fit for your family.
Car Seat Adapter for Infant Seat:
One of the features that I love about the Joovy Caboose Ultralight is that you can still use just about any Infant Car Seat Carrier. This is one of the main things I was looking for in a double stroller. I knew I would want the convenience of my infant seat but I also didn’t want to have to buy a new car seat to work with my stroller. The Caboose Ultralight has a Car Seat adapter that can be switched out for the Snack Tray. This allows your car seat to fit securely in the front seat. There is also a red strap that secures the car seat in place. Plus, an added feature that a neat freak like me loved was the hidden pockets that are used as storage for the Car Seat strap when they aren’t being used.It just helps to keep everything looking neat and tidy.
3 Position Recline Mode:
The new Caboose Ultralight has a 3 position recline which has is great if you have a child who’s tired and wants to take a nap in the front seat so it’s ideal for younger children who want to nap while mom is shopping. However, the only problem I found with this feature is that when the seat is reclined fully it can be difficult for the older child to ride sitting down. There is still plenty of room to ride standing up, but it might cause a problem if you have 2 tired kids. Also, the front seat needs to be reclined if you are using the car seat adapter so again there isn’t much room for the older child to sit while the car seat is in the front of the stroller. Here’s a picture of my kids riding at the mall so you can see what I mean.
This is my 2 year old standing in the back while the Car Seat is in the front. There is plenty of room for standing and honestly my son would rather stand because he thinks it’s more fun so it wasn’t really a problem, I just wanted you to be aware of the space issues if you plan on using this stroller with the Car Seat attachment in the front.
Folding & Storage:
The new Joovy Caboose Ultralight weighs in at only 21 lbs. Plus, it has a compact fold which makes it easy to store. I drive a 2009 Dodge Journey which has a decent amount of space in the trunk. I didn’t have a problem fitting this in the back of my car when I had the snack tray on but the infant seat adapter is a little bit longer so I had to turn the stroller sideways to store it in my trunk. Also, I was disappointed to learn that this stroller requires 2 hands to collapse. I loved that my single stroller collapsed with one hand because it just made things easier when you have your hands full, but with this stroller I had to put everything away and empty my hands to fold it up. I wanted to give you a good idea of how this stroller fit in my car, so here are a few pictures.
Some of the other features that I loved about this stroller would include the Parent Cup Holder Sleeves, I thought they did a great job of holding things secure and I even loved that it had some zippered pockets. We took this stroller for a walk around our neighborhood and it really does drive nicely, plus I love how lightweight it is. It’s the most noticeable when you are lifting it in and out of your car. My son is 2 and he loves the freedom of being able to ride around standing up and not feel like he’s strapped in to the stroller, but I love knowing I have the option to buckle him in if he’s getting on and off too much or we are somewhere that I don’t want him to get down.
The Storage under the front seat is also nice, I love having a place to put my stuff, it’s a decent size basket so it holds all my shopping bags (Because we all know I love to shop!). One last thing I noticed about this stroller was that it wasn’t too long or hard to drive. I was a little worried about the length of having a double stroller but I really didn’t notice much difference in the way it drove and I found it easy to get around even in crowded stores.

As of 6/15/10 the 10% discount code noted does not work.
bummer. i SO wish i would have gotten the 2010 version. we got ours used on craigslist, so it was super cheap. but it’s simply not functional. i NEED storage space. and it wasn’t something i thought to research ahead of time. i am so glad that they made the basket larger with the new version!
