If you have ever had to buy textbooks for one of your children’s classes then you know just how expensive this process can be. Typically textbooks are only used for a few months so Cengage Brain has developed a site that allows you to rent your textbooks. All you have to do is go online and rent your books, when you are done using them at the end of the semester then just print a return label and Cengage Brain pays the shipping back. Or you have the option to purchase the books if you decide to keep them as a reference.

With over 15,000 printed textbooks, online ebooks and study guides Cengage Brain has something for just about everyone. To rent textbooks simply go online to CengageBrain.com and enter the ISBN number of the book you are needing. You can then choose one of several options:

  1. Rent the Textbook – You can select to rent a textbook from Cengage Brain for up to 70% of the list price of the book. This is a great way to save on books you know you won’t need in the future.
  2. Buy the Textbooks – Just search by the ISBN number to purchase your textbooks online. Shopping online for textbooks was one of the ways that I saved money while I was in college, but I am surprised at how much more advanced the process is these days.
  3. Download the eBook – You can now purchase the entire textbook as an eBook. This is perfect if you need the book right away or you plan on carrying your laptop with you to class and you don’t want to cart around multiple books.
  4. Purchase Select Chapters – With Cengage Brain you can purchase select chapters from the textbooks you need. This is another great way to save money. I know there were times in college where I would have teachers tell me at the beginning of class which chapters we would be covering. This is typically when you have a large (and expensive) textbook that you can’t possibly cover in one semester. Being able to purchase select chapters would have been great!

Another great resource from Cengage Brain is the Online Study application and dashboard. You can access all your study resources and books from one central location on the iPhone app or on your Cengage Brain online Dashboard.

Make sure you Check out Cengage Brain if you are shopping for textbooks this fall. Also, you can get complete details on the Facts and Questions Page.

I am a big believer in using flash cards for memorizing things. Just writing it down on the flash card helps with learning the fact and then the use of the cards reinforces it.

my kids study after dinner with the tv turned off

Rose Alexis August 23, 2010 at 2:09 pm

Do it when the kids are sleeping or you’ll spend all day trying to do it and nothing or no one will be happy.

I like to study or do homework the same day it’s assigned so it’s fresh in my mind and I remember what I’m supposed to be doing. Thanks.

Study tip: Always prepare for exams / read in the early mornings, no late night studies. It spoils the health as well.

I’ve found that coffee houses are amazing study places – they are quiet, you can wear earphones and listen to music, and there are no distractions!
