If you have ever had to buy textbooks for one of your children’s classes then you know just how expensive this process can be. Typically textbooks are only used for a few months so Cengage Brain has developed a site that allows you to rent your textbooks. All you have to do is go online and rent your books, when you are done using them at the end of the semester then just print a return label and Cengage Brain pays the shipping back. Or you have the option to purchase the books if you decide to keep them as a reference.

With over 15,000 printed textbooks, online ebooks and study guides Cengage Brain has something for just about everyone. To rent textbooks simply go online to CengageBrain.com and enter the ISBN number of the book you are needing. You can then choose one of several options:

  1. Rent the Textbook – You can select to rent a textbook from Cengage Brain for up to 70% of the list price of the book. This is a great way to save on books you know you won’t need in the future.
  2. Buy the Textbooks – Just search by the ISBN number to purchase your textbooks online. Shopping online for textbooks was one of the ways that I saved money while I was in college, but I am surprised at how much more advanced the process is these days.
  3. Download the eBook – You can now purchase the entire textbook as an eBook. This is perfect if you need the book right away or you plan on carrying your laptop with you to class and you don’t want to cart around multiple books.
  4. Purchase Select Chapters – With Cengage Brain you can purchase select chapters from the textbooks you need. This is another great way to save money. I know there were times in college where I would have teachers tell me at the beginning of class which chapters we would be covering. This is typically when you have a large (and expensive) textbook that you can’t possibly cover in one semester. Being able to purchase select chapters would have been great!

Another great resource from Cengage Brain is the Online Study application and dashboard. You can access all your study resources and books from one central location on the iPhone app or on your Cengage Brain online Dashboard.

Make sure you Check out Cengage Brain if you are shopping for textbooks this fall. Also, you can get complete details on the Facts and Questions Page.

Fall Semester started for me already! I am out of my usual routine for studying. I am a single Mom, so it is not always easy to study and take care of the family. I usually study and get all homework done when my son’s are in school so there are less distractions. Thanks for the giveaway. I really need college textbooks. :)

Kimberly S. August 22, 2010 at 9:06 pm

We study early and good ol’ repetition. We do practice spelling tests all week long up till the day before the test.

Annette D August 22, 2010 at 8:42 pm

My favorite study tip is to study early! I never waited until the last minute to study for a test!

Connie August 22, 2010 at 7:21 pm

Take notes and keep going over them.

Christie August 22, 2010 at 7:18 pm

I’m not that great at studying; I’m a huge procrastinator and work best under pressure. In fact, I’m supposed to be working on my grad school class right now but find entering all these B2S giveaways more fun!

Jennifer Short August 22, 2010 at 2:27 pm

Study every day, and don’t wait until the last minute.

Morgan August 22, 2010 at 2:00 pm

I take good notes and I set aside time each day to study.

Turn OFF the cell phone. Putting it on silent doesn’t cut it – it’s still a distraction.

OlyveOyl August 22, 2010 at 11:58 am

My favorite study tip = Get into an area with little to no distractions and read the materials more than once – memorizing really helps me. Learn to say no to all the WONDERFUL/FUN activities happening around me knowing that I will benefit from learning.

It’s proven that studying right before bed actually causes you to remember better for the next day! While you sleep you ponder on it even subconsciously.

Go to a quiet restaurant. I often had to get online for study guides and such. I would go to Quizno’s because it was never that busy. I would also get free refills while I was there.

My favorite study tip: review notes each day after class and high-light the most important ideas or facts. You’ll master the content easier if you do this day by day and don’t wait until just before a test to study!

You can’t just read it once. You’ve got to expose yourself to the material multiple times, especially if it isn’t something that really engages you. I have the kids do something with spelling words all 4 nights prior to Friday’s test. Repetition.
