I recently got an email from someone asking a great question that I hadn’t ever addressed. I know we have some New Couponers reading the site these days so I wanted to answer this question online in case anyone else had wondered the same thing:
Question: Can you Stack Internet Coupons and Newspaper Coupons?
This is a great question because there is a lot of confusion about stacking coupons and I know readers often hear these terms on my site, others and on TV and they wonder how everyone is getting things for Free by stacking coupons when their stores won’t let them use more than 1 coupon!
The first thing we need to talk about is that There are 2 Different Types of Internet Coupons: Store Coupons & Manufacturers Coupons!
Store Coupons are issued by sites like Target, Rite Aid, Walgreens, CVS and more online and are only valid in the Specified Store. Also these typically DO NOT Have a standard UPC or Barcode and they are programmed only to work at the specific store.
Store Coupons typically have a barcode that is different from a Traditional Manufacturers Coupon (Notice how this Walgreens Coupon has a bunch of 00000’s You wouldn’t find that on a Manufacturers Coupon.
Manufacturers Coupons are issued by the Manufacturer and are valid at any retailer that accepts Manufacturers Coupons. The store is reimbursed for the coupon when they turn it back in to the Manufacturer.
A Manufacturer Coupon should contain a Barcode (Similar to the one shown at the top of the post), Say it’s a Manufacturer’s Coupon and have an address for the retailer to mail the coupon to in order to redeem the coupon.
You can find Manufacturers Coupons Online & in Newspaper Inserts!
So the answer to this question is a little tricky and I can see why it would be easy to get confused. You Can Stack An Internet Store Coupon with a Newspaper Coupon at most stores. However, You CAN NOT Stack an Internet Manufactures Coupon with a Manufacturers Coupon from a Newspaper Insert!
