Sunburn Remedies for Treating a Sunburn at Home

Summer for many means at least one bad sun burn so make sure you bookmark these Sunburn Remedies for Treating a Sunburn at Home.

Whether it’s early in the year and you don’t really believe the sun is hot enough to burn yet, or just one day during the summer when you simply forgot the sunscreen.  Regardless of how it happened, you want relief from the pain of sun burn as soon as possible.

While there are products you can purchase to help with the sun burn, there are also quite a few home remedies that work just as well, if not better.

Check out these Home Made Sunburn Remedies:

1. Aloe Vera is a well know burn remedy.  Squeeze aloe vera directly from the plant and rub on the skin to help get rid of the sting and even some of the redness that comes with a sunburn.
2. A cool compress applied to the sunburnt area will immediately eliviate some of the pain of the sun burn.  You can add some baking soda or oatmeal to the compress to help even more.
3. Take a Bath with Baking Soda or Oatmeal.  Using cool water, not hot, take a 15-20 minute bath with a few tablespoons or baking soda or oatmeal.  Either will provide relief to sunburnt skin.  After the bath be sure to air dry, if possible, so as not to wipe the baking soda or oatmeal from the skin.
4. Keeping your skin moisturized will help with a sun burn.  Apply lotion to affected areas immediately after taking a bath or shower to lock in some of the moisture.  You can even stick the lotion in the fridge or freezer briefly before applying so that it very cool when applying.
5. Potatoes make a wonder pain reliever.  Put washed potatoes in a blender or food processor until close to liquid form.  Layer on skin on top of the affected areas to help relive the pain.
6. Dust affected areas with cornstarch to help ease chafing that comes when trying to wear certain under garments after having a sun burn.
7. Drinking water will help keep your body hydrated and should help the sun burn heal quicker.
