Corporate just released a new Walgreens coupon policy on the website. You can print your copy here. I am excited to see that Walgreens is making this official across all stores. As always I recommend you carry a copy of the Official Walgreens Coupon Policy with you in case you run into problems at your local store.

Here are the highlights of the policy:

:: Redeeming Coupons

  • The number of Manufacturer Coupons, including register rewards, may not exceed the number of items in the transaction.
  • The total value of coupons may not exceed the value of the transaction.
  • In the event that an item is on sale for less than the value of the coupon, Walgreens will only accept the coupon for the value of the item. (No Overage will be given).
  • You may use 1 Manufacturer Coupon and Applicable Walgreens Coupon(s) for the purchase of a single item. Note: The policy specifically reads Walgreens Coupon(s) so I take this to mean that you can use more than one walgreens coupon per item.
  • Coupons will be reduced if the coupon value exceeds the product price.
  • Walgreens will accept multiple identical coupons for multiple qualifying items. (If you buy 2 of the same product you can use 1 coupon on each product.)
  • On B1G1 Free Sale terms. Up to 2 coupons can be used against the items being purchased as long as the net price does not go below zero.
  • Walgreens does accept internet coupons

:: Register Rewards

  • There is a limit of one Register RewardsTM (RR) printed per offer per customer per transaction.
  • Customers redeeming a Register RewardsTM against the same offer may not receive another RR.
  • The RR coupon value cannot exceed the total purchase amount. No cash back and no cash value for RR coupon.
  • Register RewardsTMcannot be used toward the purchase of gift cards and pre-paid cards.
  • Register RewardsTM must be forfeited if the qualifying merchandise is returned.

:: Exclusions

  • Walgreens does not accept expired coupons
  • Walgreens does not accept competitor coupons

Make sure you print you copy of the Walgreens Coupon Policyfor reference. This is just a short summray.

I went into Walgreen’s this evening as a matter of fact. I had a bunch of Pantene coupons to use and was looking at the clearance. I did not know their policy .. I hadn’t shopped there before … thought I could be able to use overages to pick up Pantene that wasn’t on clearance but was buy 1 get 1 50% off .. Long story short .. I am now aware of their policy. I ended up having my $1.29 clearance price increased to $1.50 (I was using the $3 off on 2) My coupons would not scan .. since the clearance price was less than the coupon. When I asked about overages, the manager laughed … we aren’t going to PAY you to shop here … So, after my 5 transactions (my daughter did the 5th one) I paid total $1.48 … 49 cents was mascara not covered by coupon and taxes. Atleast my cashier was nice ….

I had a big run in with one of the Walgreen’s in my area, I had a coupon for buy (1)one of item “A” and recieve $3.50 off item “B”, I also had a coupon for $1 off item “A”. I had a cashier there adimantly refuse to use both, saying I was using 2 manufactur coupons against item “A”. I explained I WAS buying item “A” at x dollars with $1 off (which didnt even go below $0, and SINCE I was BUYING item “A”, I should receive $3.50 off item “B”. I showed her the coupon policy where none of my items went below $0 and that even on their B1G1 offers I would be allowed to use a coupon on the FREE item… her reply? “I dont care, Im not doing it”.

I reported her. Im 90% sure I was not wrong in my coupon line up.

As a former employee (just recently quit in December), I will tell you that she was in the wrong. I honestly don’t blame her for not taking them though if she didn’t feel 100% comfortable with it; HOWEVER, she should have called her manager, who could have cleared it up quickly.

i have had bad experiences with walgreens also i actually stop shopping there because they don’t let you get the best benefit out of your shopping trip it’s complicated and confusing and i end up spending more money with ad onitems then i intended to spend i love rite aid and cvs because they let you combine your coupons with your up rewards and ecb’s i have never had any issues with them i vow to never step foot in walgreens that was months ago and i haven’t been there since i am still saving a ton of cash

I am finding the same issues here in Florida , they make the rules they want to use ..they need to fallow there own policy or change it.. I have complained to coorprate also..considering sticking with CVS also..your right way less confusing..to many rules at walgreens

today i went to walgreens because i had 4 in rr and i got bic razor and it gives me 2rr. my balance was like 2 bucks and i tried to use two $1 RR. they told me i couldnt use 3 manufacture coupons. i was like what do you mean? she said the RR are manufacture coupons only 1 manufacture coupon was allowed so i couldnt pay with RR. This really changes everything. not like cvs you can all the extra bucks you want. then i tried reading the coupon policy and was even more confused. nowhere does it limit the number of RRs you can use. so does anyone know if you can use more than 1RR per item and RR is TM so is it store coupon???????????? or manufacture and it says only redeemable at walgreens. I love cvs. They dont care how you spend you ecb’s.

I actually worked at Walgreens for years, and just recently quit. It clearly states at the top of Register Rewards that they are Manufacturer’s Coupons. The coupon itself says it can only be used at Walgreens; however, stores that accept competitor’s coupons, will accept them. (ie: Walmart and Publix) Also, the very first listing on the coupon policy is: “The number of Manufacturer Coupons, including register rewards, may not exceed the number of items in the transaction.” I believe this is what you were in search of. All that being said, the RR are awesome if you can figure out how to work them… but gosh does that take some time! I shop more at CVS, I even did as an employee of Walgreens. Their ECB are much easier to “work”!

Hi just wanted to clarify about register rewards. You can use as many register rewards as you want as long as it doesn’t exceed the total amount purchased but you have to keep in mind that the # of coupons cannot exceed the number of items. Yes confusing. Let me give you an example of one of my transaction.

Bought 4 reach toothbrush at 2.99 each. ( 4 transactions) I had manufacture coupon (mc) for 1.00 off for each transaction making my total 1.99 and I got 2 dollars RR back for each transaction meaning 4 total RR at 2 dollars each equals 8 dollars total. Fifth transaction, bought 1 pack of pamper diapers on sale at 24.00 dollars. I had a mc coupon for 1.50 off. Picked up 4 laffy taffy (.15 cents) each. Reason why I picked up the laffy taffy is because it is the cheapest thing in Walgreens that I could buy so my number of coupons does not exceed my number of items. So here is the transaction: pamper 24.00 sale price + .60 for the 4 laffy taffy = 24.60. I used 1.50 mc plus 4 RR (8 dollars) = 9.50 in coupons making my total after tax = 16.00

Hope this clarifies it. Don’t give up try it again and good luck :)

Holly, the coupon policy says that they DO accept internet coupons. Specifically it says,……

Internet/Print at Home Coupons
Walgreens accepts valid internet/print at home coupons.

The Walgreens coupon books are located in the store. It’s a small book of savings. They are free when you enter the store.

I had a coupon from the May walgreens booklet and a mfg coupon. Tha cashier said I could not use both because the walgreens booklet coupons are also manufacturer’s coupon. Is this true.

kelly October 29, 2011 at 9:25 am

Ana, According to the policy you can use a manufacture coupon and a walgreens coupon. They are not both manufacture coupons.

Britni January 7, 2012 at 8:29 am

The in-store coupons say they are manufacture coupons, but they are not.

Ok it says in the Walgreens coupon policy that they do not except internet coupons. So I am assuming this means that they don’t except coupons that were printed off the internet…..True or False

They do accept valid internet printed coupons.

I was told at walgreens today that in order to get the rr for the huggies deal that my merchandise had to total $20 before coupons? i don’t see this anywhere in the policy. Could you help to clarify if this was correct information.

Hello…love the site! Question regarding the deals for Walgreens. It appears that the policy does not allow for overage when using coupons. However, I see posts for RR & coupon usage that states it’s a “moneymaker.” Can you explain?

Reply

Britni January 7, 2012 at 8:35 am

This is correct, overages are not allowed (or even possible). A “moneymaker” scenario at Walgreens would be something like this:

“ITEM” 2/$3.50, Buy 2 and receive $2 register rewards (for next purchase)
You have: 2- $1 coupons off of 1 qualifying “ITEM” ($1/1)
You are still spending the initial $1.50 (plus your local tax), but you get the $2 RR.

Yesterday at walgreens. I had a coupon for $1 off of the Dial NutriSkin lotion. I just happen to find a travel size and was so excited although not knowing the price. When she rang it up it was .99. and she refused my coupon. Is this typical?

Reply

Britni January 7, 2012 at 8:37 am

More than likely, your coupon specified “excludes trial size”. If it didn’t, she should have changed the coupon amount to 99cents. Most cashiers don’t know to do this.

I’ve had bad experiences with Walgreens in the past, but I’m tempted to give them another shot. It says in their policy that they only give one register reward per person per transaction. Does this mean that if I were buying two products that qualified for RR I would only get the RR for one product, or does this mean that all of the RR would be added together and print out as a single RR?

Reply

Heather March 17, 2011 at 9:41 pm

It’s one per deal. So if you buy one for Almay and one for Garnier you’ll get both. But you can’t get 2 Almay in one transaction.

Reply

Holly March 18, 2011 at 11:52 am

Okay, I think I’ve got it. So if the Almay were supposed to give back $2 RR per purchase and I bought two, I would only get $2 RR, not $4 RR. Is that right?
