I have a coupon for free dog or cat treats from PetSmart. There’s not a PetSmart in my area (closest one is approx. an hour away). Will Wal-Mart still accept the coupon? Thanks!
Will WalMart accept a double coupon? For example, if I brought in the Safeway ad that has the coupon to double up to 4 manufacturers coupons (up to 2.00)?
I need to find a new Walmart. I have to take the policy out every time I go. The other day my cashier flipped out about the $2 dial coupon. She was like “you don’t deserve extra money. I was shocked I told her listen its clearly in your policy AND Walmart gets their money back! She refused so I had them call a manager and when he got there he looked at her and couldn’t understand why she wouldn’t. He said ” do it.. they are manufactures coupons.. whats the problem.” So for each coupon she was banging the keys having a tantrum. These women act like each coupon they scan comes out of their pay check.
Since I live in a small town, unless I want to drive an hour, I shop a lot at Walmart. I have just started with coupons and every time I have gone shopping I have not had a problem. The closest I have come is that I had a Buy one- Get one free coupon for body wash. When I got home I was looking over my receipt and noticed that they only took a $1.50 off. I had extra coupons still at home so I took one and my receipt back up and showed them the mistake. They ended up giving me a gift card for the difference. Since then I have had no problems. AT least they did honor the coupon and the fact that I am a person and not just money to them.
My question regards the price matching. For example, the Gillette deal at Walgreen’s where one must buy $30 in product and get $10 back in RR. All of the Gillette items appear to be regular price at Walgreen’s and using all of the appropriate coupons for each item PLUS getting the RR makes it an awesome deal. However, if one takes this deal to Walmart …. what happens with the $10 back in RR??
Register Rewards are exclusive to Walgreens.
I so far, have been really lucky at my Wal-Mart. When I read all these stories, it just makes me think of a big greedy corporation who wants to lure people in to spend money, but then just take them over for what they can! It is beyond ridiculous that their cashiers and worse yet managers don’t know the policies!!! Hopefully, with more people couponing and people complaining to Wal-Mart they will decide to give their employees some training! To those who have felt embarrased, I would just loudly turn the criticism back to them. Why does your store promote such things to get us in the store and then not follow your own polices? Wal-Mart is sneaking and has done alot of horrible things this doesn’t surprise me!
I know this thread is all about coupling, but I was wondering if anyone knows their policy on price matching? I can look up the coupon policy pretty easily, but haven’t seen anything on price matching. Thanks!
The only reason I set foot into my Walmart is to price match. Before I started couponing, I would save my circulars that each store sends out each week. I will only buy what is on sale and make my list that way. I have mostly saved money on produce. Walmart has substandard produce but I generally get it for 50-75% off of what they would charge.
Before the cashier begins, I let him/her know that I am price matching. Then they know to ring slowly so that I can tell them the price of the item. I always arrive with a detailed list and try to put items on the conveyor belt by store. In about 30 transactions, I have only had one cashier ever ask to see the price listed in the circular. Once a cashier told me that they only match “local” stores and the store that I was attempting to match with was too far. I pointed out that it was 6 miles away and then made her call the manager. That was the end of it.
I went to one Ohio Walmart and was told you could not price match and use a coupon. Then I came home, researched the policies on the internet and called a different Walmart. They told me I could price match and use a coupon. I went to the Walmart who said I could do both and first was told they did not price match BOGO. Once she figured out that they do match the BOGO as long as the ad lists the price, I was able to get the Clean and Clear Body wash but not for free. They charged $5.50 for one and $.49 for the other so that the total matched the $5.99 price at Walgreens. I was able to use my BOGO coupon for the $5.50. I ended up paying 49 cents for the two. I have a call in to the Corporate Office. Iit makes no sense to me why they would price match to get your business but not let you use a coupon that they are going to collect on from the manufacturer. Totally defeats the purpose of price matching because it forces you to go to Walgreens any way.
I went to a Walmart today as they told me they WOULD price match the BOGO clean and clear body wash from walgreens. So they did that, but wouldn’t let me use my BOGO manufacturer’s coupon with it. they said i was using two coupons? No, I price matched and used a coupon. No where does it say I can’t do that. Can someone please explain this to me? Thanks
walmart would not honor my price match from walgreens BOGO bodywash with a BOGO coupon. they said I was double dipping????????????
Heyo to all of you out there just couponing away!
I myself am new to this hidden World of addictive savings. I just started last week by buying my binder, organizing my existing coupon stash, obsessing over the “Passion for Savings” website and so forth. Thanks to your posts Heather, I managed to score 7 bottles of Nivea Men’s Body/Hair Wash (I would have gotten 12 total but they had no more in stock and don’t allow rainchecks apparently. Is this true? That’s what the manager on duty said anyway. –S.C. store– I glanced at the Policy but saw nothing pertaining to it.), 12 Degree Women’s Ultra Clear (and fabulous smelling, mind you) travel size deodorants, an Aquafresh Extreme Clean Whitening Toothpaste tube (travel size as well, God Bless ‘em!), 2 packs of Ivory Bar Soap (3 ct. so, 6 bars total) and a delicious pack of McCormick’s Chicken Taco Seasoning ALL for FUH-REE!!!! Well, to be technical I actually MADE $.68 but it was applied to my whopping $1.81 sales tax. This was a purchase that would have otherwise been $36.07. Now that I think about it, I would have bought more but those were all the applied coupons I had on me. Not bad for a first timer, eh?
Unbelievable. Absolutely un-freakin’-believable.
I wish I had discovered people like you all, YEARS ago!!! Here’s to looking forward to saving and scouting out deals with the lot of you for years to come.

I’m a little upset by how difficult my local Walmart made things about this coupon policy. I brought a coupon from a Target ad for Carefree 20-24ct Actifresh that listed the date of expiration and the exact price: 1 cent. The managers told me that they will no accept the coupon because all of the coupons MUST have manufacture written on it. I tried to explain that it would be a price match for a store and not a manufacture coupon (even though it looked like one) and they didn’t budge. They didn’t even want to look at the policy I had printed out! They had one of their own and they wouldn’t let me see it to confirm what they were saying. They also said that because the coupon said valid in store only, that it could not be used there. I tried to do this on two different occasions with two different managers. The first time I didn’t have the policy with me and the second time, I had the policy in hand. Am I misinterpreting the coupon policy? Or were they?
I just emailed Customer Service about what happened. Hopefully they will give me an answer.
Just read Christi’s post… so I emailed Michael Duke too. I was very upset. I felt like I wasn’t being heard. I’m new to couponing (only one week) but if you didn’t write about your successes I think I would have given up by now. I am so happy to have found this site. I have two others that I frequent but this is my favorite!
Oh, and Heather, I moved from Bentonville this past summer. I must say I have been able to get better deals where I am now if only because I have more groceries to choose from: Walmart, Publix, Kroger and Aldi. Trying to find the best deal is kinda fun. I like my new place but I sure do miss AQ Chicken, Whole Hog Cafe and all the craft fairs! I’d love some of that over the coals chicken from AQ. I purchased some of their lemon pepper seasoning before we left but it’s almost gone. You have a great site here!
I’m fairly new to this whole price-matching business so I thought I’d try something at Walmart today. Publix had several buy 1 get 1 deals. I figured it was worth a shot at least on items I already buy. While they did not give me the second item for free, they did deduct the difference. For example: say the Publix item was $1 cheaper than the Walmart item (not likely, but hey). Walmart would charge you their full price for the first one and then deduct the difference between their price and Publix’s price from the second item. Not really worth the trouble in most cases unless you regularly buy the item. Most of the time it would only be a few cents difference. Of course, those “few cents” do add up over time. It would be better to just go to Publix and get the second item free. Maybe this is already known to most people but I’ll bet there is someone out there like me who didn’t know. Lesson learned anyway.
I would just like to say, “Thank you!!!”, Heather for what you do! I don’t think I would’ve been able to speak up and “back up” my voice. I’ve read on you site that people were having issues with the new WalMart coupon policy. A few readers stated to email Micheal Duke (michael.duke@wal-mart.com), the President and CEO of WalMart, of issues they have had. I decided to take that route on a bad experience I have had. I sent an email to Michael Duke at 4:05pm yesterday. Just one hour ago, I received a call from a manager at my local Walmart stating she was contacting me regarding my email to their president, Michael. She was VERY apologetic. She also stated that her staff was NOT made aware of the new policies and tomorrow morning, there is a mandatory training regarding the new policy. I could not be happier!!!! A lesson learned, if you don’t speak up, no one will listen!!!!! See my email to Michael Duke below. Yet again, thanks!!!!

At a recent visit to my local Wal-Mart (Thief River Falls, MN), I had a Catalina from another local store (Hugo’s) I frequent. The Catalina was for a $1.00 off of Kleenex, it stated, “Manufacturer’s Coupon” and it also said, “Redeemable at Hugo’s”. The cashier did not know how to input it in. I stated it was Wal-Mart’s new coupon policy that now, I would be able to use Catalinas from competitor’s stores and showed her my printed Wal-Mart Coupon Policy I printed off of Wal-Mart’s Corporate website. She called over the manager and assistant manager that both told me they could not accept it because there is no way they could send it in to get reimbursed because it said, “Redeemable at Hugo’s”.
I found the experience completely embarrassing as patrons behind me in the line were frustrated at me. I find it completely embarrassing for Wal-Mart because their employees are not trained on new policies and demean their customers. If I am wrong, please let me know. But, from what I read on your website concerning the new coupon policy, I believe I am correct. Thank you for taking the time to read my email regarding this matter.
Hi ,
I just wanted to let you know that I too have had many problems with the same location in Thief River Falls, MN! And have completely banned this store! They have turned down my printed internet coupons even if they scan! I wrote a letter to corporate and was told this wouldn’t happen again. Well when it happened again I banned them! I too was embarrased in the line however not to embarrased to ask the cashier politetly to remove and put back all the items she rang up that she would not accept my coupons for. The store manager told me if from now on I would like to come to customer service first and show them which coupons I will be using first they will give me prior approval I said no thank you if you cannot treat me as a customer I will shop else where
Just needed to add that the market office told me that RR’s with “$$ off your next purchase” would not be accepted because the new coupon policy states that they do not accept “% off or $ off Competitor Coupons”.
I tried to use RR’s to pay for some groceries and 3 CSM’s told me that my RR’s could not be used because they were “not attached to a specific product”–like a coupon.
I called corporate, who directed me to the market office and I was told the same. She said that NO Walmart should be taking RR’s unless they are for specific products, like $1 off Gain detergent, for example.
No more doublers folks — I don’t know that I’ll be complementing their corporate office any time soon.
No more doublers — ouch.
If i use the WAGS dove coupon at walmart for $1.99, can i then use a manuf q with that? Does it act like a price match or a coupon? Pls reply on my email, thanks a lot.
one coupon only at walmart———
Here is a suggestion for everyone:
Since Walmart has updated the coupon policy, I encourage everyone to Email, Fax and even call Walmart CEO on complimenting the change on policy. Also, please share your horrible experience with Michael Duke. Ask him for his advice on making your future shopping experience smooth as possible avoiding past experience of you and others. Lastly, share this thread, other thread and blogs.

Why complement them for taking away the option of using doublers///////////
This is great news for Walmart. Here is the sad thing, some competitors like Safeway and it sister stores are going other directions. They are being more coupon unfriendly everyday. Some of their sister stores are the worst culprit of giving worst harassment and attitude toward coupon users.
I read horror stories form Dominicks, Randalls and others. The worst offenders from several websites are Vons/Pavilions chain in Southern California. E.G. Worst story, some Vons Cashier calling Coupon User Un-American and Socialist.
This is very good for Walmart. Walmart want your business from the struggling poor to the affluent. Kudos!
What about Walgreen’s / CVS competitor ad were they list the product there selling price say 1.99 with register reward or carebuck .99 off so total price $1.00? Do they honor this? I have gone to some Walmarts and they do and the cashier next to them won’t..
I was at Walmart last night with items and my internet printed coupons. The cashier couldn’t get the coupons to scan and called over the manager who stated Walmart doesn’t take internet coupons.
But the RR from Walgreens has their name on it. Walmart is going to take a RR that says Walgreens on it ?
Yes, that’s what the new coupon policy states. The register rewards from Walgreens are Catalina coupons and as long as they state Manufacturer Coupon which they do Walmart should now accept them. Make sure you print the policy and take it with you.
I just left Wal-Mart and was told I could not use my RR from Walgreens because they are for a $ off your entire purchase and not a specific item. A manager was called over and I tried to stand my ground but when she pulled out the coupon policy I backed down and left with my RR. Came home to look online and they were right! It does specifically say on wal-mart.com that they are not allowed. Bummer!
Would you mind clarifying the Wagreens in ad vs Target coupon thing. I’m not sure I understand the distinction.
Thanks!!
KK
Sure if you have a Target Coupon for $1 off Dove. Walmart won’t take $1 off the price you would pay at Walmart so you can’t use most Target Coupons at Walmart.
You can use a coupon that has a specific price for the coupon. So the best example I know of is that Walgreens In Ad Coupons that say Dove Deodorant $1.99. Since this coupon has a Specific price Walmart will basically Price Match that coupon.
So they won’t take $ off coupons. But they will take a “coupon” for a Specific item at a specific price. This is an extension of their price match policy.
Does that help at all?
So does this mean you cannot redeem any internet coupons for free products? What about the new Mission Chip coupon?
Exactly. You would not be able to redeem the Mission Chips Coupon. Actually I think very few companies issue these free coupons and the reason stores don’t accept them is because there is such a high instance of coupon fraud on these type of coupons. Most companies issue free product coupons by mail. I would suggest writing mission foods and seeing if you can get a Mailed Coupon to redeem and point to the coupon policy stating that you can no longer redeem this type of coupon at Walmart. Companies will start to realize that stores don’t take them sooner or later (hopefully!)
