All Month Long you can grab FREE Ivory Soap at Walgreens. I wanted to share with you a great recipe for making Homemade Liquid Hand Soap from just 1 Bar of Ivory Soap.
This is a great way to make Dye Free, Scent Free Soap that you can use in your Bathrooms from something that you can get FREE this week and all it requires is 1 bar of soap and 12 Cups of Water.
How to Make Liquid Hand Soap
Materials
- 1 Bar or Ivory Soap Grated
- 14 Cups of Water
- Large Stock Pot or Pan
Instructions
- Add 14 Cups of Water to Stock Pot and Bring to Boil
- Add Grated Ivory Soap Bar and let Cook for 15 minutes on High, Stir Frequently
- Allow Hand Soap to Cool and Pour into Large Mason Jars or other storage containers
Keep in mind this is extremely hot and needs to cool for a few hours before you transfer it to a jar or storage container. Also, this seems very watery for a few hours and it will eventually solidify more overnight.

I made this and it worked great for the first few weeks, but has since separated into water and little tiny soap beads, any idea what I did wrong?
I made this and put a little in my foaming pump with warm water. It isn’t coming out easy or foaming much it almost seems to have it clogged. Any suggestions why this would happen or what I may have done wrong?
I am going to try this with a smaller soap bar and 6 cups of water. I don’t need a ton of soap just enough to fill my containers. I have one container which is for a foaming soap…wish me luck.
I tried your recipe with a bar of dial, it works great. It took about 5 hours for it to get thick but other than that I love it.
I love the simplicity of this recipe! Do you by chance know why your recipe doesn’t need glycerin? I have seen a multitude of homemade liquid soap recipes, and all of them call for glycerin. Have you tried with glycerin? Does it make a difference? I do not have a bar of Ivory soap (YET, but I’ll be getting some for FREE tomorrow, thanks!) to compare to another bar. Have you been using this recipe long? (Sorry for all of the questions, but it really is curious that the Ivory recipe doesn’t use glycerin, and all of the ones I have read do).
Do you use 12 cups of water or 14?

Would this work with Dial? I would like an antibacterial hand soap.

I have read many other posts that state that Dove seems to be the only one that wouldn’t work. IMO, I think using Dial would be thicker than the picture above because Dial is a glycerin-based soap. If you check out other blogs regarding making homemade soap, the recipe calls for glycerin (unless using a glycerin-type soap). Hope this helps!

Have you ever tried to add some essential oil for fragrance?
I have a foam pump dispenser that when it runs out I put a little liguid dish soap from the kitchen into the bottle with water and shake and it works great in the pump.
It says 14 cups of water in the ingredients list but 12 cups in the instructions. How many cups is it?

i know it says it is running but it gets thicker, well in the picture you post of it the mason jars liquid is really thin, is this thick or thin in the picture with the mason jars. does it ever get thick like hand soap like soft soap or not. thank you so very much.
