The Official Sound Conditioner of the National Sleep Foundation. This is what serious sleep is all about.
The Dohm NSF Sound Conditioner is one of my personal FAVORITE products I have ever owned. I would recommend this to anyone looking to help block out noises and get a good nights rest.
My sister introduced the white noise sound conditioner to me when I had my first child. We had a small house and the rooms were all very close together and we needed a way to help our baby sleep well without hearing all the noises coming from different areas of the house. The “noise maker,” as we call it, was the best purchase we made and well worth every penny! We don’t go anywhere that our kids will be sleeping without our “noise maker”. Period. We actually have two now, one for each of our kids.
I have several friends that asked me about our sound conditioners and I have recommended them many times. All of my friends that got them for their kids love theirs too. My Mother-in-law was keeping our kids overnight and I told her it would be nice to use the “noise maker”, and she said she didn’t think she could sleep with it. I told her it was fine and not to worry about it. Well, she ended up using it and said she had one of the best nights sleep she’d had in a long time!
I would also personally recommend if you use a sound conditioner and a monitor at the same time for a child, that you leave as much space as you can between the sound conditioner and the monitor. When mine were placed too close together I received some static on my monitor so keep that in mind. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you are using a sound conditioner for the first time, it might take a little time to get used to it.
I don’t think sound conditioners need to just be used for helping kids sleep. They can be used for adults too. My husband and I have gotten so used to hearing our kids from their monitors that if we ever sleep anywhere without the kids (which is rare), but has happened on a few occasions, we have to put white noise on our cell phone or put something on to drown out noise. They are really great in hotels too because it helps keep noise distractions during sleeping muted.
The Dohm NSF was formerly the Dohm-DS (formerly SleepMate/Sound Screen 980A). It received a few Aesthetic upgrades including an attractive bright white finish, raised silver medallion, and complementary gray on/off switch. The older models had black on/off switches and more of a creamy finish. I like the new aesthetics myself. Mine has the older features which is fine, but this looks a bit nicer and sounds a little better too!
There are some different brands available of these sound conditioners. I really liked the Dohm NSF because it had rubber grips on the bottom which kept the noise maker in place very well and helps decrease vibration to increase sound quality. There are two speeds (like a high and low) along with tone and volume alterations you can adjust by twisting the top of the Dohm in different directions.
