As we prepare to gather our relatives around the table for Thanksgiving each year, I always try to think up a unique way we can share what we’re thankful for with each other. This year, I have a simple and easy Family Gratitude Pumpkin idea that looks pretty, too!
For this project, the idea is that every member of the family writes on the pumpkin what he or she is thankful for. You can have each person sign their name by their entry, but sometimes it’s fun to let the handwriting give it away, too!

Or, it’s also entertaining to have everyone write what they’re thankful for, set the pumpkin in the middle of the dining table for Thanksgiving dinner, and during the meal, let everyone guess who wrote what! It’s a beautiful conversation piece
How To Make A Gratitude Pumpkin
First, you’ll need a pumpkin. I chose a white one so it would work with my neutral décor, but you really can choose any color. When you choose your pumpkin, make sure to find one with at least a 3” stem, so you’ll have room to tie the bow on top.
Furthermore, you do not have to use a real pumpkin for this activity! If you’d like to keep it and use it as décor year after year, a faux pumpkin might be best! Next, you’ll need a 2-2.5’ long ribbon
to tie around the stem.
You can either use fabric that you tear or cut into a 3-inch wide strip or you can use a ready-made ribbon. I have tried both ways and they look equally as nice! Lastly, you’ll need a black sharpie.
Before you let everyone write on the pumpkin, you must remember two things: One, the pumpkin must be cleaned well beforehand. Otherwise, the dirt will stick to the Sharpie marker and make it difficult to write.
The second thing you must remember is that since you’ll be using a Sharpie marker, please supervise the younger children well! I would hate for them to get marker on their special Thanksgiving outfit!
