Target Price Match Policy
If you are asking “does Target price match?” the short answer is yes. That’s good because we want to know that we are getting the lowest price possible. In my experience, Target has a fantastic price match policy. I’ve heard some people say they don’t like it. Maybe they just are not using it correctly. We will simplify the policy for you and share how you can save the most with price matching at Target!
Starting November 1, 2025, if you purchase an item in store or online and the price goes lower at Target on or before December 24, 2025, you can request a price match. Proof of purchase is required for price adjustments after purchase. Target store price matches and adjustments are completed at the store on any lane.
What is Target’s Price Match Policy
I’ve been looking for the best price on something like a Dyson Stick Vacuum. There’s no way I’m going to pay full price on one so I find one on sale at Target. The next day, it’s a better deal at another store. Target’s Price Match Policy allows you to shop with confidence knowing you will get the lowest price. If you find a lower price, you have 14 days to request a price match.
The price match policy allows you to know you’re getting the best price on most items at Target. According to their website, “We’ll match the price if you buy a qualifying item at Target then find the identical item for less at Target.com, select online competitors, or in Target’s or competitor’s local print ad. Price matches may be requested at the time of purchase or within 14 days after purchase.”
What Stores Does Target Price Match With?
The list of competitors that Target will price match is pretty big. With the rise of Amazon, it’s good to know that Target will price match. You can also use your RedCard on the price match. Price Matching only works on the EXACT same item, so you need to double-check the Item Name, Brand, Product Size and quantity when you are in stores to make sure you are purchasing the right item. A lot of stores these days have special size packaging which means you may not always be able to price match items. For example, Dollar General and Family Dollar might sell a 45 oz. bottle of Laundry Detergent while Walmart sells one that is 50 oz. This is something to pay attention to before you get to the front counter because it will save you a lot of headaches later on.
Print Your store’s Ad match Policy
I can’t tell you how many times I have been trying to price match and run into Cashiers who didn’t know their store’s policy! That’s why it’s important to carry a copy of the Target Coupon Policy and the Price Match Policies with you in your coupon binder or box to save yourself a lot of time spent arguing over what is allowed. I find that if I have the policy with me it’s much easier to explain to a manager the situation.
Stack Rebates with Price Matched Items
You may also find stacking rebates at Checkout 51 or Ibotta and I love using them to stack with coupons and rewards offers at drugstores and gift card deals at Target. They are also great ways to save when you are price matching.
There are Exclusions
There are some exclusions to Target’s Price Match policy. If you are ready to do your Black Friday shopping and think you will price match those gifts, you need to know they will not match. Price matching will not be accepted from Thanksgiving Day through the entire week after Thanksgiving. That’s a bummer but most stores are pretty competitive on popular items so you will score a deal. Guidelines and limitations
- The price for an item must be listed and valid at the time of match. We reserve the right to verify a competitor’s advertised price and the availability of the item. If Target is not able to verify the lower price, we may decline the request.
- The item must be the identical item, brand name, size, weight, color, quantity and model number. It must be in stock for shipping and delivery / pickup at the time of Price Match for approved online competitors. It also must be sold and fulfilled by one of these select competitors (PDF Download).
- Offers found on deal websites will be validated at the retailer’s primary website and must meet all other price match criteria.
- Please bring the entire printed ad, or show the online price or digital version of the ad on your mobile device for proof of price. Original receipts or packing slips are required for price adjustments after purchase.
- We match Target.com prices on in-store purchases and in-store prices for Target.com purchases. In-store price matches from other Target stores are excluded.
- When price matching with the Target app, the Target app must be showing the price of the current store location.
- Alaska and Hawaii Target stores are excluded from price matching online competitors.
- No rain checks will be issued for items out of stock at Target or Target.com to match a competitor’s price.
- We reserve the right to deny purchase and limit quantities per guest for local and / or online competitor matches.
Use Limits to your Advantage
One of the little known secrets of price matching is that it’s a way to increase quantity limits set by your favorite store. Or if a store is sold out of an item, Price matching may still allow you to take advantage of a deal by shopping at a competitor. For example, if Walgreens has an item marked down and the limit is 2, I can grab 2 at Walgreens and Price Match 2 at Target, which allows me to get 4 of an item that is on sale for a really low price, this is one way to build your stockpile. It is important to note that you must follow limits at Target that are noted in the ad, so if your store has a limit of 2 most stores will only price match up to that limit.
Do your Price Match Items First
Every time I check out I like to do all of my price match items first. Since I typically hand over my coupons at the end of the transaction this gives the cashier a little break between price matching and also helps me focus on one thing at a time.
