Are you looking for away to save money on baby supplies? What if there was a way you could earn a little extra money and save money at the same time! Yes, you did hear that correctly. Baby consignment stores are a great place to earn extra money on baby items you no longer need. A little unsure how consignment stores work? No, problem this post will give you all the tips and tricks you need to successfully save money at consignment shops.
What Is A Consignment Shop?
A consignment shop is a little different from your traditional thrift store. At a consignment store sales your items for you and a portion of the sale goes to the store.
An example would be you bring in a baby swing to sale. The store might charge you $5 to sale the swing in their store. In turn you get to have your item in their shop. You also get to earn extra money on items you are no longer using. I like to take my earning and use them on other frugal baby care items in the store.
Where to Find Consignment Stores
You can find consignment stores in your local area. Most consignment shops have certain days and times you can drop off items. You should call in advance to ask about any stipulations. Making sure you are prepared and organized will make the whole process easier.
What to Buy
It is easy to spend a lot of money at consignment shops! Not because the prices are high but because the prices are so low that you want to buy it all. Before you even step foot in a consignment shop make sure you have an idea of what you are looking for. I usually start by looking for items that have brand new tags on them. It’s pretty awesome to find brand new clothing at a consignment store price!
When purchasing gently used clothing be sure to inspect them for stains, missing buttons or zippers. It’s okay if they are missing a button or zipper if you know how to fix it. Even small stains are okay if the outfit will be used as play clothes.
If you purchase any equipment like strollers, swings or playpen make sure to look them over. I personally don’t like to buy any items that have damage. Typically, the stores are really good about looking these things over but I always take a glance.
Other Options Similar to Consignment Stores
Thrift stores and consignment stores offer gently used clothing at a highly discounted price. You can easily pick up clothing or baby supplies at a fraction of what they would cost at department stores.
