The movie stars Just Mercy Jamie Foxx, Michael B. Jordan and Brie Larson. It’s based on the life work of civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson, the founder of the Equal Justice Initiative.
Stevenson has worked to challenge bias against the poor and minorities in the criminal justice system. He’s gotten rulings from the United States Supreme Court, such as prohibiting children under 18 from being sentenced to death or life imprisonment without parole. He’s also worked on cases that ended up saving dozens from prisoners from the death penalty.
