Healthy Trick or Treat Snack Ideas Kids Love
Halloween is coming fast and because of this, kids everywhere are starting to get excited about trick or treating. If you are like me, you want to give them something to enjoy but not something to rot their teeth out. Feeding our kids the preservative, sugar loaded treats is not something we usually feel very good about. Granted it is once a year, but why not give them something that you will feel good about and they will love anyway?
Here are some healthier trick or treat options that most kids will love to eat:
Dark Chocolate
Dark chocolate is a wonderful go-to treat because it has health benefits that other chocolate treats don’t have. Granted it is still loaded with some of the bad stuff, but every little bit helps when it comes to teaching your kids good health habits. Doctors today are saying that dark chocolate in moderation is actually good for us. Score!
Fruit Snacks
Gummy bears, worms, insects and countless other creatures are readily available and inexpensive too. Why not give out some of these healthier trick or treat snacks instead of candy bars, sugar powders and the like? These gummy treats have a ton of flavor and will make even the most finicky eaters smile.
Amazon even sells some great options for Organic Fruit Snacks that are pre-packaged and ready for trick or treaters, you can also pick these up at most Target Stores or Whole Foods locations.
Allergy Free Candy
So many kids have Food Allergies so it’s important to keep that in mind if you plan on handing out candy. These Organic Pops are made with real fruit juice and are Gluten Free, Nut Free, Dye Free and they also have no artificial flavors which makes them a great option for school events or parties where you will have a lot of kids.
Raisins
When it comes to natural and healthy, raisins top the list. While they are not as popular as they once were, this old favorite is still generally a hit when it comes to kids. Most children would happily take a box of raisins or Craisins for trick or treat and it is annually a popular choice. Other dried fruits are great too and some folks make a nice mixed bag. Bananas, apples, raisins and other dried fruits make for a yummy trick or treat option.
Cutie Oranges
These are one of my kids favorites! These small bite sized oranges are so good and because they still have the outer peel on them, you can hand them out at parties (especially school functions) without much trouble.
Granola Treats
Finally my personal favorite. If you want to truly give them something to feel good about, give them granola bars! With the flavors and options out there, you can really mix it up. Kids love these things and they will give the children a positive health boost in place of that horrible sugar rush.
Fruit Cups
You can create Jack-O-Lantern Faces on clear fruit cups filled with oranges or peaches for a fun and festive Pumpkin Treat that’s healthy as well!
Pretzels
My kids love pretzels and you can get Pretzels in a lot of fun shapes this time of year. Look for the pre-packaged snacks if you are planning on handing them out to trick or treaters.
Apple Sauce Pouches
These new Fruit and Yogurt Pouches are so handy and kids love them! The Applesauce pouches are shelf stable and they don’t have to be refrigerated so these make great treats to hand out tp trick or treaters.
Pudding Cups
This is a little bit of a cross between Candy and a Healthy Snack, but Pudding Cups are a great inexpensive alternative to a lot of the other healthy snacks and pre-packaged foods on the market + kids will love them!
Why give our kids something that is not good for them? We have tons of awesome healthy options instead!
