Today I want to share one of my absolute favorite tips. I have this thing about Dingy Whites, they drive me crazy. You know when your sheets, pillows, duvet covers, towels etc. get a little yellowed and they just aren’t bright white anymore. Well I have a Solution I want to share with you!
I call this my Miracle Laundry Whitening Treatment because even my husband was amazed at how brand new it can make things look!
You’ll need 3 Ingredients:
Laundry Detergent
Dishwasher Detergent (Powder)
Bleach***in the photo above, vinegar is shown, but we have removed that from the ingredient list as it is not safe to use with bleach, so do not use the vinegar as pictured**
Remember to only use this on whites since you have Bleach involved.
Combine these in equal parts with HOT HOT HOT water and Wash in your Washing Machine.
We have a white duvet cover on our bed and it was starting to get dingy again at the top so I tried to take before and after pictures. Trust me the results look much better in person because I’m not really a very good photographer. Here’s the before.
After it’s completely white and it looks brand new.
I used 1 Cup of Each of the 3 Miracle Ingredients with Hot Water for a large load like this.
If you’re washing something smaller you could probably use 1/2 Cup of each. Just remember to use them in equal portions.
What do you recommend for HE washers?
I agree! Bleach and vinegar shouldn’t be mixed together! Too dangerous.
We have updated this post – removing the vinegar – thank you to those that commented on this.
I used this method and was super pleased, but then started reading comments about bleach and vinegar being a “no-no.” Have you heard anything else about that? I didn’t notice any weird smells when I tried this, but I’m a little paranoid to try it again. Just curious if you talked with anyone else to get some clarification. I figured since the mixture was diluted by all the water, maybe it’s not a huge deal?
Acid (vinegar) should never be mixed with bleach! The gas off is toxic! The dishwasher detergent would contribute more enzymes and more whitening but the vinegar mixed with these is very dangerous!
