RELATED: Summer Boredom Busters for Kids
When it starts getting really hot outside in the afternoon and we can’t be in water, I love to break out crafts for my kids. Planning ahead works well for crafts so I try to plan a few Summer Craft Ideas for Kids each week and get my supplies ahead of time. Depending on the project, I may also do a little prep work if I think it’s too much or hard for the kids to do alone. That often helps summer crafting go more smoothly. I hope your kids enjoy these crafts this Summer!
1.) Summer Agamograph from Easy Peasy and Fun
Agamographs are two pictures in one. Depending on which side you look at the picture from will depend on what picture you see. You can even get a printable template to do this project! I know my 9 year old daughter will love this one!
2.) Wacky Bugs from The Seasoned Mom
These Bugs are made out of sculptable clay, pipe cleaners, wiggly eyes and some super glue! Add them to a jar with some leaves and small sticks for extra fun!
3.) Washi Tape Bookmarks from Typically Simple
If you have a child that loves to read this is the perfect craft for them. Grab your favorite washi tape, a hole punch, ribbon, alphabet stamps and ink, scissors, and cardstock to make these cute bookmarks!
4.) Fish Paper Weaving Craft from Easy Peasy and Fun
Using the provided fish template this craft is good for fine motor skills as the kids learn to weave the paper in and out of your cut lines on the fish. This craft works well with heavier weight paper, scissors, glue and colorful paper for the strips. You’ll also want some paint, markers or ink pads to finish coloring the fish.
5.) Make Homemade PlayDoh from I Heart Naptime
This recipe is for soft playdoh made out of flour, salt, cream of tartar, vegetable oil, water and food coloring! Just store it in a zip lock bag to retain its freshness.
6.) Painted Rocks Rocks from Easy Peasy and Fun
Go rock hunting with your kids and paint them with yellow, black, white and blue acrylic paint! You’ll have to wait a little bit to let the layers dry if you’re painting over them!
7.) Easy Sailboat String Art from Easy Peasy and Fun
Start with a wood board, Nails and a hammer. You’ll also need scissors and 5 colors of yarn to make this boat just like you see here. Kids love this!
8.) 3D Paper Butterfly Craft from I Heart Crafty Things
Using round Avery labels for these butterflies is such a great idea! Just add a googly eye, and the wing template you can download and you don’t have much else you have to do to make this cute craft!
9.) Make your Own Fluffy Slime from I Heart Naptime
With just glue, saline solution and shaving cream you can make your own fluffy slime! Add food coloring if you want to! Also it’s good to use a bowl that you use just for crafts or one you can toss afterwards. I normally use a Styrofoam bowl and it works great!
10.) Sponge Sailboat Craft from Easy Peasy and Fun
This craft is as fun to play with afterwards as it is to making it! Using sponges, wooden skewers, construction paper, scissors, glue and wire cutters you can easily make these and let them float in a tub of water!
11.) Paper Straw Tulip Craft from I Heart Crafty Things
Easy to make, but so cute these tulips can be made easily with green paper straws, construction paper, hole punch, scissors, glue and a tulip flower pattern.
12.) Washer Necklace Tutorial from Frugal Family Home
Using washers of various sizes you can paint them with nail polish. Isn’t that a genius idea? Add some beads if you want to dress them up and use a hemp or suede cord to attach the washer and beads to make your necklace.
13.) Paper Plate Ice Cream Craft from Easy Peasy and Fun
With paper plates, brown cardstock, paint, pom poms, markers, scissors, glue, brushes and sprinkles you can make these cute Ice Cream Cone crafts this summer with your kids! Perhaps you could go for a real ice cream treat afterwards!
14.) Mandala Craft with Black Glue from I Heart Crafty Things
This craft is geared towards a little older child, or let’s admit it, Mom you might even want to do this one! The main thing about this craft you need to know is you have to plan ahead because the first step is to put the black glue on your sheet and it must dry overnight so it won’t mix with your other colors.
15.) Summer Trees Craft from Red Ted Art
This craft is cool because you’re using actual items from the outdoors! Just grab some sticks, leaves, paper and glue to make this tree craft! You can also make this for other seasons with changing leaves as the seasons change.
