A Recent News Station Uncovered that The Target App is Switching Prices on You! Here’s why that is important and how you can fix the glitch to save more!
Attention Target Shoppers! If you have the Target App and you rely on the Target App for In-Store Price Information then you need to make a few changes so that you can make sure you are seeing the BEST Prices every time you’re in stores!
Yesterday a friend of mine posted This Video from KARE 11 a News Station in Golden Valley, Minnisota that did a 2 Month Investigation into the Price Switching that has been occurring at Target Stores for people who are using the Target App.
You can watch the video here, or watch the video above.
The Target App is Switching Prices on You!
Basically if you have the Target App AND You have Locations Enabled on your app, when you walk into the store the App Automatically updates all the pricing to your local stores price.
Here’s the problem with Price Switching!
A lot of us (Myself included) Scan the prices of big ticket items we are going to buy using the Target App to see if there are any Cartwheel Coupons available or if there are any better deals online.
You could be Missing Out on Price Matching Opportunities
Target Price Matches their own online prices, However if you don’t know that there is a cheaper price on the website (Because your app is showing you the in store price) Then you can’t take advantage of those savings!!!
There have been several times that I thought a price was better online, but when I got to the store it wasn’t and I didn’t end up price matching something because I thought the pricing online had changed (When in fact it could have just been my app showing me the same in-store price)
This is HUGE!!! Because you could be missing out on Price Matching Opportunities and Savings every time you shop at Target!
How to Fix the Target Price Switching Glitch
There are 2 Ways to get around the Price Switching Glitch with your Target App.
- Turn Off Location Settings for the Target App. You will need to go to your Settings on your phone, Find the Target App and then Turn Off Location Tracking to Never so that the app cannot detect if you are in the store or at home.
- Use the Mobile Web Version of Target.com to Price Check Items in stores.
Both of these methods don’t include your Location so you should see the BEST PRICE for the item you are shopping for.
If you find a price cheaper online than it is in stores you can Price Match the Online Price and take advantage of those savings in stores! This is one of my favorite ways to save at Target and I’m so glad to learn about the glitch so that we can be smarter, more informed shoppers!
Target.com still switching prices, shows $2.99, then $3.29 at one store, then $3.69 at another for Guittard chocolate chips right now. Added to cart, initially popped up at $2.99 and then $3.69 when checking out, LAME.
Thanks for sharing. I realized a while ago that I’d look up items before going to the store and would then find them higher in store, never more than $1-2, but it was frustrating. Now I’ll turn off the location services before shopping.
