Did you know that reading to your baby is one of the most beneficial things you can do? You are probably thinking why, my baby can’t even understand what I am saying. While this is true, your baby can’t make out the words you are saying but reading to your baby still offers several benefits. I’ve made it a point to find cheap baby books and you can to!
Benefits of Reading
:: Reading out loud to your little one helps to establish a connection between the two of you.
:: Babies will start to learn about communication.
:: You are introducing numbers, shapes and letters to your baby.
:: Reading helps to build listening and memory skills.
You might not think your baby will be able to comprehend these skills but they can! You are setting the fundamentals for future learning. By the time your baby is one years old they have learned all the sounds to speak. They might not be making all of these sounds and saying a lot of words but they have the foundation.
Children that have been read to at an early age struggle less with reading as a school age child and typically have a larger vocabulary.
Where to Find Cheap Books
If you have walked into a Barnes and Noble lately, you have probably been shocked at the prices of books! Books are very expensive but you don’t have to pay those high costs.
Finding affordable baby books is very easy and won’t take much work on your part at all.
The Library
Your local library is a great resource for free books. It also makes for the perfect outing for you and the kids. The library has a huge selection of books and it won’t put a dent in your budget.
Garage Sales
I absolutely love finding books at garage sales. I have come across some really cool books that my children have just loved. The best part is I normally don’t pay more than 25 cents for the books. If you are on a tight budget garage sale shopping for books is perfect!
Amazon and eBay
Shopping Amazon for books is great because there are so many deals to be had. You do have to do a little more digging to find books that are on sale, but it is so worth it. I will usually start my search with a generic term like books for kids and then start looking through the list. You will see a wide variety of books available for little ones.
eBay is also a great resource for very affordable books. You do have to watch for high shipping costs. If you decide to search on eBay for books, make sure to include free shipping in your search. If you are paying $5 or $6 for shipping you’re not saving much.
Kindle Owners
Almost every single day there are free books available for Kindle owners. Don’t have a Kindle? Not a problem! If you own a laptop, desktop, iPad or any other tablet you can install the free Kindle app.
Reading to your baby on a tablet or Kindle Fire is so fun! The books made specifically for tablet users offer so much interaction between the story and the child. There are even some books that play songs, ask the baby to touch the screen and much more!
