If I’m being honest I LOVE the idea of Spring Cleaning, but my schedule doesn’t always allow for it so I wanted to share a few tips & hacks for making Spring Cleaning Easier!
Use newspapers for cleaning Mirrors, Glass & Stainless
Use your favorite natural cleaner on your glass or windows and then wipe down with old newspapers. Paper Towels and rags can leave lint behind, the Newspaper is a great alternative for a streak free shine!
Use Hydrogen Peroxide to Clean Your Refrigerator Shelves
This non-toxic cleaner breaks down dirt and debris and will leave your Fridge Shelves Sparkling Clean without adding harmful chemicals near your food! Just make sure you store your Hydrogen Peroxide in a Dark Bottle to protect it from sunlight, You can find trigger bottles at stores like Dollar General to make cleaning a breeze!
Heat a Sponge to Easily Clean Your Cabinets
Place a damp sponge in the microwave for 1 minute, then spray with your favorite kitchen cleaner and wipe down your cabinets. The heat will help to quickly remove dirt from your cabinets, this is also a great job for little ones, let them go to work on your cabinets to remove all the dust and dirt that builds up over time.
Wash your Shower Curtain Liners with Vinegar
Shower Curtain Liners can easily build up with soap scum so it’s a good idea to wash them several times a year. To keep them clean try throwing your shower curtain and 2-3 towels in the washer (to keep the liner from crinkling) with laundry detergent and Then add 1 Cup of Vinegar to the Rinse Cycle to help eliminate the soap scum!
TIP: you can also add ½ Cup of Baking Soda with your laundry detergent if you want an even deeper clean.
Steam a Lemon to Clean Your Microwave
Cut a Lemon in half and Squeeze the juice into a bowl of Water, place the rinds in the water and Microwave on High for 5 Minutes, then let it sit in your Microwave for another 5 minutes. Remove the Glass Tray and wipe down the microwave. The Lemon Water breaks down debris on the inside of the microwave and the steam helps to make everything easy to remove!
Use Coffee Filters to Make Homemade Cleaning Wipes
Coffee Filters are a Great Lint Free Option for cleaning that are really inexpensive. Place a stack of Coffee Filters in a Reusable container and soak in your favorite all purpose cleaner. Shake the box to mix the cleaner and soak all the “wipes” Now you have a handy set of pre-moistened wipes for cleaning everything from baseboards to tables and toys!
Remove Hard Water Build Up from your Keurig with Vinegar
Use a 1 part water and 1 part vinegar mixture to clean the inside of your Keurig brewer. Just remove the K-Cup and run the brewer several times until the entire Vinegar solution has run through the machine. Then repeat this process with an entire reservoir with water to remove any Vinegar remaining on the inside of the Keurig.
Clean your Garbage Disposal with Baking Soda, Ice, and Salt
There are a lot of fancy methods out there for cleaning your Garbage disposal but this easy trick is my favorite. Run Cold Water down your sink drain and then add 1 Cup of Ice and begin running the disposal, then add ½ Cup of Rock Salt to the drain and continue running the disposal. The Ice and Salt mixture will help remove any debris from the inside of the disposal area.
TIP: There’s some debate about using lemon peels in a disposal, lemon juice is a great deodorizing alternative that can be added to cleaning process to help remove smells from your disposal.
Use a Broom to Dust Hard to Reach Areas
Dust Hard to reach Places with a Broom by placing a Microfiber Cloth over a broom and securing it with a rubber band. This will help you reach hard to reach places that are often hard to clean.
Restore Wood Floors with Olive Oil
Add in ¼ Cup of Olive Oil into a bucket of Hot Water and your favorite Essential Oils or Floor Cleaner to help restore the shine to your wood floors naturally! You can also opt to add Lemon Essential Oil to your hot water in place of the floor cleaner if you want a more natural solution.
Make Your Towels Like New Again
Add in ½ Cup of Vinegar into your Laundry when doing your towels to restore life back to your old towels, I do this several times a year and it really does help keep our towels feeling and smelling fresh and clean.
Keep Carpets Smelling Fresh with Baking Soda & Essential Oils
Place Baking Soda and a Few Drops of your favorite essential oils in a bag and shake to mix well. Sprinkle soda over your carpets and allow to set for a few minutes. Vacuum up the baking soda for fresh and clean smelling carpets in just a few minutes!
TIP: This also works really well on Mattresses! You can sprinkle the same baking soda mixture on your mattress, let it sit and vacuum it off to make your mattress smell fresh!
