How much solution do you use in the reservoir if it does not provide a measure cup?

  2. Wendy says:

    works great thanks

  3. Beth Bishop says:

I’m very interested in making my own carpet cleaning solution for my steam cleaner. The photo that accompanies the recipe shows Arm & Hammer Washing Soda yet none of this ingredient is listed in the recipe for the cleaner. I’m anxious to make this! Help, please!

  4. Kaughnee says:

You show a box of baking soda but your recipe doesn’t include it; are we to assume that you used it and that we should? And if so, how much?
    Thank you

You don’t really need it. We have updated the recipe since we did the picture because the one in the post works better than the first one we posted.

  5. Kevin Johnson says:

Why does the picture show washing soda but then the recipe doesn’t call for it?

Wow, just cleaned my bedroom carpet . Loved it, I did add 1/2 cup of vinegar, instead of 1/4 cup. Will never buy carpet cleaning solution again! Thank you so much.

  7. Kelly McElroy says:

WOW!! I am so glad to have found this! I kept putting off buying the shampoo for my carpet cleaner because the small bottles were always gone and the big bottle was more than I wanted to pay. THANK YOU!!!!

  8. Bev says:

This works on smoky smells that are embedded in the carpet from fireplaces (etc.). Also, using lemon scented dishwasher detergent leaves an subtle, but clean smell. Works great on stains! Try this and I promise you won’t be buying the pricy department store brands.

wow my husband cleans carpet for a living and advises not to do this! It may look clean to start with but it comes up alot when someone like him comes to clean your carpet also it makes your carpet collect dirt faster…

We use laundry soap instead of dish soap

    1. Bev says:

would using laundry soap make it foamy and hard to suction? Also, how would you rinse the residue?

  11. Rochelle says:

This worked great I added about 1/3 cup of Downey fabric softener to this mix and the carpets smell great and have a touch of softness and it doesn’t mess up your machine.

  12. Amy says:

I would worry about sudsing. My machine has lots of brushes and goods up when something sudsy goes in. Wonder how it would work with high efficiency laundry soap? They’re made to be low-suds… Anyone try it this way?

  13. Angela says:

I always get confused when I see these types of recipes. Do you use the concentrated or non-concentrated dish soap? I can’t wait to try this recipe!

  14. Nancy says:

I do this!! Works great!! I use Dawn original dishwashing liquid.
