One of the things I love most about Summer is reliving some of my favorite childhood memories through the eyes of my kids! As a parent I realize that memories don’t always have to be expensive; in fact, some of my favorite childhood memories were made in my backyard.
I know I am always looking for creative and fun ideas that I can do with my kids during the Summer months that aren’t expensive but still make incredible memories for my kids! I want to capture those memories and share them with friends and family members because sometimes it’s the little things and time spent with loved ones that matter the most!
And if you’re like I am and you’re bad about remembering to actually print all those awesome photos you take then make sure you check out this short video about the Canon Pixma Printer & the new Pixma App, you can print your photos from your smart phone on the app using a wireless device! Here are 5 ways to Make Memories on a budget!
1. Get Crafty
Pinterest can be overwhelming at times, but the number of ideas that exist for having fun with kids is endless. Search for ideas and ways you can get involved in activities with your kids. I seriously still remember making Splatter Paint Tees and Shoes with my mom in our front driveway and I have loved capturing these same moments with my own kids! (Note: I have the directions here if you want to try making your own)
I also have an entire Pinterest board for Summer Activities for Kids, or check out this post of 101 Ideas for Kids this Summer!
2. Plant a Garden
We have enjoyed planting and maintaining our garden with our kids this Summer, they love everything from planting the seeds (I mean what kid doesn’t love to play in the dirt), to watering the garden and even eating the Vegetables. This is a great way to make memories as a family, I love Saturday mornings spent working in the yard and garden as a family.

3. Find a Hiking or Bike Trail
There are Tons of Free Parks, Bike Trails and more that you can use with your family to get outdoors and make memories without spending a fortune! Grab your camera and get outdoors, this is something your kids will remember for years to come!
4. Bake your own Summer Treats
Let your kids get into the kitchen with you, I know my kids LOVE to bake and honestly sometimes when I’m in a rush to get dinner on the table I’m not always up for lots of little hands in the kitchen, so baking summer treats is a great way to let your kids get involved and enjoy the process together! These Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches are a fun and simple recipe you can try with your kids. This No Bake Oatmeal Chocolate Cookies recipe is another great one for kids!
5. Family Game Night
We are always posting deals on inexpensive board games, so set aside a night of Family Fun and grab your favorite board game. It really doesn’t matter which game you choose, my kids are small and really into memory right now so you could make this more fun by popping popcorn and setting up a small tournament with a fun prize! Don’t forget to grab your camera and capture a few selfies while you’re at it. Remember, making memories is about spending time with those you love, not about fancy vacations and busy schedules. so slow down and enjoy those around you + Don’t forget to capture those memories.
