One of the biggest questions in the world is which one is better? Amazon Instant Video or Netflix? I have had the honor of using both, however, I have some opinions on which is best. I have come to the conclusion that it is all what you personally prefer as a family. However, there are some major perks to using either one. The number one perk is that neither is cable. Cable can cost anywhere from $50-$100 a month, depending on what you are enjoying as cable-perks. Let’s break down the perks of each one!
Amazon Instant Video
This has always been a favorite of mine. I personally use Amazon because the 1 Year membership is only $99 which is just $8.25 per month, less than Netflix and you get all the incredible Freebies that come with Prime like Free 2 Day Shipping, Free Photo Storage, 20% off Diapers, a Free Kindle Book each Month. Who can say no to all of these perks?

I order so much off of Amazon that it’s worth it to buy the Amazon Prime membership every year. Two-day shipping is NICE when you need things like diapers, wipes, and other household items. I don’t even think you can really put a value on this free shipping thing.
Okay, another reason I love the Amazon path is because you get thousands of movies and shows. I have noticed some movies and shows that are available on Amazon that are not available on Netflix. One of the annoying parts of Amazon Instant Video is that not everything is free, some things you have to buy—which can be really confusing. I wouldn’t let your kids have free access to Amazon Instant Video without a password. It’s amazing what they can buy when you’re not looking.
Another reason I enjoy Amazon Instant Video is that you really can download it anywhere. Whether you want to download it on your tablet or smartphone, it provides hours and hours of entertainment for kids and maybe even yourself. I also like that you can download videos and shows for offline viewing. Although the download takes forever, it is worth it if you don’t have the Internet on your tablet. Even if the power goes out, you can have some form of entertainment for your kids on a fully charged tablet, thanks to the downloadable offline movie option.
I also like the fact that Amazon Instant Video/Prime is payable at one time. I pay it once and I don’t have to worry about it. This is also easy to budget for every year. Although some people don’t like paying all at once, it really is a matter of preference.
Netflix
I wasn’t always a huge lover of Netflix, it can be a lifesaver. This is a great option for someone who is ditching cable. You can watch anything you want for a fair price on Netflix. For starters, you can try out Netflix FREE for a whole month! How awesome is that?
No Commitment
For those of you who don’t like committing to a whole year of payment at a time, you’ll love Netflix because you can cancel it at any time. I think it’s pretty easy to cancel too, just log online and cancel. For those of you who don’t like things to be complicated, this is for you! Super easy to join and cancel.
Watch Anywhere
Another awesome part about Netflix is that you can watch anywhere. Just like Amazon Instant Video, you can download it and watch it on tablets, computers, phones and so on. However, you cannot view videos offline, which can be a bummer.
Different Prices
Let’s say, you want to pay the very basic price of Netflix, this would cost you $7.99 a month. There is also a standard and premium option. There are various perks of having each level of membership. You can also set up your payment on autopay, so you never have to worry about missing out on something important like your favorite show.
Endless Viewing
I also love that Netflix produces their own movies and shows. It’s cool to log on and see that there are different videos/shows available. You can also watch for hours on Netflix, knowing that everything is included in the monthly price—no guessing!
There you have it, the pros and cons of Amazon Instant Video and Netflix. There are pros and cons to each one. You really have to sit down and see why you’d love one over the other. Some families even have both! They love the perks of the free two-day shipping from Amazon Prime, but they also love some of the shows available on both platforms.
Why Both Are Better Than Cable
Now, let’s get to the juicy part. I am part of the world that believes that both of these are better than cable. It’s awesome to be able to watch TV whenever and on your time.
Less Expensive
One of the top reasons why Amazon Instant Video and Netflix are better than cable is because of the price. Think of what you can do with your family for the amount of money you’re spending on cable.
No Contract
Another great thing about these two platforms versus cable is that there is no contract. You can cancel Netflix at any time. Prime is so cheap; you really don’t have to worry about canceling.
I’d love to hear why you love one over the other! Share your reasons below. Also, tell me something I don’t know about Amazon Instant Video and Prime.
We “cut the cords over a year ago, have Netflex and Prime, we also have VUDU (and a Roku) stick on maint TV) and have not missed cable once! And certainly do not miss the cable bills!
