This easy pumpkin craft idea is perfect for fall. It can be used throughout the fall season. You can use it plain for both Halloween and Thanksgiving. If you wanted to get real crazy, you could add a face and make a jack-o-lantern for Halloween. The best part is that it is free to make!
This easy pumpkin craft idea is free to make because you use paint chips to build your pumpkin. I went to the hardware store and got an array of orange, green and brown paint chips since I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted. I used square paint chips for this project. Some of them are rectangular and I didn’t want to use that size. Even though paint chips are free, I did ask the guy behind the paint counter if it was ok and cleaned out his orange samples. Luckily he was nice and didn’t mind.
I played around with the paint chips to create my pumpkin. Spread out on my table, I tried different variations of the paint chips until I got a design I was happy with.
At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted it to be more abstract and keep everything square, but in the end I decided to cut a couple of the paint chips on a diagonal to make it look more round. That is the best part about this project, you can make it anyway you want and you can’t go wrong.
I found this awesome white cabinet door at my friend’s house and she gave it to me. It was perfect for this project. Now I realize that not everyone has a friend with cabinet doors lying around, but you can get a white piece of cardboard or foam core board from the dollar store or for a couple bucks at the office supply store. If you wanted to spend a little more, you could always buy a cheap piece of MDF board from the hardware store and paint it.
I started with the bottom layer of paint chips and used glue dots to attach them to my board. I wanted to make sure the pumpkin was centered on the cabinet door. I used the glue dots so that I could move them around a little if I needed to.
At one time this pumpkin did have a green leaf next to the brown stem, but it was looking more orange or peach than pumpkin. This color combination works perfect for fall!
It goes with any fall decore and would look great on a front porch, entry table or even a buffet table if you’re having a party.
The kids might even enjoy helping with this project or make this fun paint chip kid craft with them for Halloween.
I just love the colors of fall and this piece goes perfectly with the rest of my decorations.
Happy Crafting!
