How to Make Ugly Christmas Sweater Cookies

Decorating these cookies is really pretty easy. You can opt for homemade frosting or save time and buy store-bought icing! Either way, you have an adorable soft and buttery cookie.
After you get your red frosting down, follow up with some of a green frosting. Make it into a Y shape. This is going to help bring the cookie together. Once you get done, add some swirls of icing and start placing your Christmas lights all around the cookie! Easy, creative, and unique is what you get for the end result.
You don’t have to be super good with your piping skills to master this easy Christmas cookie recipe!
Ingredients For Ugly Christmas Sweater Cookies
Makes: about 10-12 Cookies
- 3/4 Cup salted butter, softened
- 3/4 Cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 tablespoon almond extract

- 1/4 tablespoon vanilla extract

- 1 Egg
- 2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
Frosting & Decorations
Directions For Ugly Christmas Sweater Cookies
1. Preheat your oven to 325° and line a
baking sheet 
of parchment paper
2. Beat your butter and sugar together until creamy.
3. Mix in your almond and vanilla extract and egg then lightly mix.
4. Now mix in your flour one cup at a time.
5. Knead the dough in your hands until it starts sticking together
6. Lay down a piece of parchment paper then flour a
rolling pin
and roll your dough.
7. Use a knife to cut your cookies in 2 3/4” x 4” rectangles (size does not have to be exact).
8. Move the cookie dough rectangles over to your lined baking pan and cook for 12 minutes.
9. Let your cookies cool on a wire rack to cool.
10. Frost each cookie then use a can of frosting to draw a Y down the front of your Ugly Sweater Cookies.
11. Place a few M&M’s down the front of your Y for buttons.
13. Use the decorating bag filled with chocolate to draw swirls on each side of the sweater cookies like pictured for the light strings.
14. Stick the candy Christmas light decorations on the chocolate swirls.
