Do you like to make your own ornaments for Christmas? There are some years that I want to add something homemade to my tree, but I don’t want it to take too much time. When I was thinking of simple DIY Christmas ornaments, I wanted to make something that would fit with my existing decorations. Well I am an absolute polka dot lover! I also like things that sparkle. Especially on a Christmas tree. Sparkly ornaments + Christmas tree lights = major Christmas magic! Well I combined two of my favorite things, and made these glittered polka dot ornaments to add to my tree this year.
I actually started with the clear plastic round ornaments. I decided to go with the plastic since it’s a little more kid friendly for tree decorating. I went with silver and gold and got out those colors of glitter. The white glitter doesn’t really show up on this project. (just in case you were wondering) :)
These are really simple to make. I dipped the eraser end of a pencil into some mod podge, but you could use glue if that’s what you have, to make my polka dots. I then sprinkled my glitter on top of the glue and then let them dry. Once they were completely dry, I used a clean foam brush and brushed off the excess glitter.
I loved the end result! The pictures don’t really do these ornaments justice. If you wanted a little more bold color, you could use paint in the colors of your glitter instead of glue or decoupage.
You can hang them from a tree, or display them in an apothecary jar or just among your other Christmas decorations. I wanted these particular ornaments to go along with my silver and gold apothecary jars.
Although I did these DIY Christmas ornaments myself, these would be fun to make with your kids or to get together with friends to put together.
Happy Crafting!
