Dishwasher detergent is one item that I find it harder to find really good deals on. Plus, I love the idea of just whipping some up whenever I need some. So keep reading and find out how to make homemade dishwasher detergent.
Homemade Dishwasher Detergent
What you Need:
–1 cup Washing Soda
–1 cup Borax
–1/4 cup Kosher Salt or Epsom Salt
— two packets of Lemonade Flavored Kool-Aid (unsweetened)
What you Do:
— Mix all the ingredients together well and store in an air tight container.
Just add a couple tablespoons of the mixture to your dishwasher for each load.
You can also add 2-3 drops of dish soap.
If you prefer tabs to powder detergent, you can also add one more ingredient and make these into dishwasher detergent tabs.
Homemade Dishwasher Detergent Tabs
What you Need:
–1 cup Borax
–1 cup Washing soda
–1/4 cup Kosher Salt or Epsom salts
–3/4 cup Lemon juice
–Plastic ice cube trays’
What to Do:
1) You first need to mix all of the dry ingredients together. They should be mixed completely so each ingredient is evenly placed into each cube.
2) Next you just need to add in the lemon juice. The mixture should be moist and it is normal for the mixture to foam a little when lemon juice is added.
3) After the mixture is completely mixed, scoop enough to fill the ice cube trays with mixture. Make sure it is packed down well so no cubes dry with gaps. You may be able to fit it all in one ice cube tray if they are packed down enough, but you should have two on hand just in case.
4) Finally you need to allow cubes to dry completely. They should be completely dry if left overnight. Putting them out in the sun will speed up the drying process.
That’s it! Just add one cube to each load you run through the dishwasher. So easy to make. Just store them in something air tight. So whichever way you prefer, it’s a pretty simple process and possibly even using ingredients you have on hand.
