Ask Her Friends
If you don’t know where to take her, ask her best friends. Chances are they’ll know of some great places you can take her and will fill you in on what to do there. I promise they’ll have some great ideas.
Make Childcare Arrangements
If you have children, start making plans to have the children well cared for. This will be very important to Momma because most of the time this is the one thing that keeps us from going on a getaway at all! Plus, don’t forget whoever is keeping your kids for the weekend has to keep the secret too!
Pack for Pictures
Looking good in photos of your weekend getaway is a must. Here are some ways to plan out some good picture moments.
Clothing
Don’t pack your old comfy lounging clothes with holes and stains…I know you’d never do that, right?! Pack your favorite clothes and the outfits she always compliments you on that fit your activity and dining plans.

Take Snacks
If you’re driving or flying run by the grocery store and grab your favorite treats. As much as you think you won’t want to snack, believe me you will. Plus, its great to have a few snacks in your room. Buying them ahead of time at the store will save you time and a lot of money. Stopping at the gas station and grabbing drinks and snacks adds up really fast and dents your budget. Save that money and use it for something special on your weekend getaway. Don’t forget her favorites!
Special Event Equipment/Clothing
If you’re going to a sporting event or participating in one you’ll need specific items for that. The same is true with going to the lake or the beach. Just think through your plans and make sure you have all the items you need for these special events.
Decide When to Announce the Surprise
If you know your wife is a major planner you may want to just tell her to block off the weekend and tell her you have a surprise for her. One idea is to start 1 month out and each week give her a clue as to where you’re going or what you’re doing. For example:
4 Weeks Before: Send her a card in the mail, let her know to save the date!
3 Weeks Before: Send her another card telling her who is keeping the kids
2 Weeks Before: Buy her something that will give her a clue as to where you are going
1 Week Before: Send her another card with the weather forecast for the weekend and tell her to pack for the getaway
Example: 2 days, 2 nights including 2 casual meals and 2 dressy meals, a spa day and bicycling
Of course you can make as detailed or as general as you think she needs. Just make it fun!
Give Her a Gift
Surprise her with something she’s been wanting for a while during your weekend getaway. It can be small or big, but anything you get her that she doesn’t know about will make her feel very loved and special.
If you don’t even know where to start, just ask her friends or family for help! I promise they’ll know just what to do! If you’re even trying to do this, just know you are doing something that will mean a lot to her.
