Extreme Couponing Strategy #20 – Shop Re-Stock Dates
I’ve already covered Rainchecks and Shopping the sales early, but what should you do if you don’t have an opportunity to get to the store early and you can’t get a rain check on the item?
One thing that isn’t talked about much in the realm of couponing is restock dates. Most stores restock more than once per week, if that’s the case and depending on the size of your store you may actually be able to grab deals in the middle of the week by knowing your stores re-stock date.
Most stores restock on the same day of the week each week. This is a great question to ask your local managers or in the case of drugstores you may even find that the Employees all know what day they receive their truck.
My local Walgreens stores all restock on different days of the week. Typically a Wednesday or Thursday in this area, then I have another store that gets a truck on Saturday Mornings. By knowing these days you can more effectively plan your shopping trips. Most stores will order based on inventory shortages, so if a hot deal sells out on a Sunday they may receive more of the items on Wednesday or Thursday giving you a few days to grab the deal before the item sells out again or the sale ends.
I always recommend checking with your local managers and asking what day’s their trucks come in and if there are specific days they restock different sections.
This information is valuable when you run into an out of stock item. I know for example that if an item is out of stock at Walgreens on Sunday, I can hit several different stores later in the week about noon on the day they get their truck and I have a good chance of getting the deal again!
Don’t Forget: You can Download the Stockpiling Price Sheet to see all of the estimated prices you could expect to pay for the basic items we buy each month. There is also a place to compare unit pricing. This is just a guide, but a great way to help you learn the prices of each item.
Tomorrow we will be talking about another strategy for getting the most out of your coupons!
