We tend to use a lot of barbecue sauce in the summer. So I thought it might be fun to try to make my own. So keep reading and find out How to Make Your Own Barbecue Sauce in the CrockPot! So easy and you can make as little or as much as you need.
One of the main reasons I like to make my own condiments as often as possible, is that you can modify the recipe ever so slightly and have it more fit your specific taste. A little more or a little less of something can make a huge difference. So the below if a basic recipe that you can use as is, you can double to make a larger batch or you can modify slightly and make it your own.
What you need:
4 cups ketchup
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons molasses
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon celery salt
1 tablespoon ground mustard
4 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon pepper
What you do:
1) Place all ingredients in your slow cooker. Beat everything together well with wire whisk.
2) Cover and cook on low for about 6 to 8 hours. Stir ever couple hours.
3) If the sauce isn’t as smooth as you might like it when it’s done, you can let it cool and then put it through your blender on puree setting.
4) You can store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. You can store in small serving size containers or in a large mason jar. Or anything else you have on hand that seals tight.
So this summer as you find yourself going through your barbecue sauce stockpile, considering making a batch yourself!
