M&M Paint Easter Eggs are SUCH a fun way to decorate eggs for all your egg hunts! Anything that is easy to make and a blast for my kids to do is a win in my book! This is just like watercolor paint, but is only made with two ingredients! Amazing, right?
How to Make M&M Paint Easter Eggs
You literally only need two supplies for this project! It’s SO easy and fast to make.
Supplies for M&M Watercolor Paint
- Water – The amount of water you need will depend on how many M&Ms you decide to use for each color, as well as the shape of your container. I used these clear plastic cups and they worked really well for this project.
- M&Ms – Be sure to sort them by color before you make your M&M Watercolor Paint
Instructions for M&M Paint Easter Eggs
First, sort the M&Ms by color. I wish there were close to the same amount of M&Ms per color in each container, but there really weren’t at all! One of the colors had about five times as many as a different color. That seems so crazy to me. Ha!
Anyway, this is a great activity for younger kids, too. The sorting by color is perfect for toddlers.
Next, add water to the containers almost to the top of the M&Ms. You don’t want to completely cover them, because the paint will be too watered down and won’t show up properly. After that, hold the cup in your hand and swirl the candies and the water together. The color will come off quickly — less than 10 seconds. Stop swirling once the color is off and scoop out the M&Ms with a spoon. If you let them soak too long, the inner white shell will come off and the chocolate will start breaking apart, too.
Tip: This is completely optional, but if you want your M&M paint to be more opaque and not runny like watercolor, feel free to mix in a little white acrylic paint.
Lastly, just paint your Easter eggs however you like! It’s such a fun activity to not only make but also to paint onto the eggs.

Materials
- M&MS
- Water
- Plastic Cups
- Eggs
Tools
- Paint Brushes
Instructions
- Separate M&Ms by color and place them in the clear plastic cups.
- Add water to each cup, enough water so it covers about 3/4 of the M&MS.
- Swirl the M&Ms and water until the color from the outer shell dissolves into the water.
- Remove M&Ms with a spoon, taking care to not remove any of the color water.
- Paint your Easter eggs! (Or, of course this paint can be used to paint on paper, too.)
Notes
If you want the M&M paint a slightly thicker consistency, feel free to add white acrylic paint to the colored water solution. It's not necessary at all, but does help the paint stay in one spot better!
