I love to find easy and cute crafts to do to help decorate the house or tables for specific holidays. 4th of July is fun because in many cases we have outdoor parties so it can be fun finding crafts that can be used inside or outside.
I love these Patriotic Candles because they are super easy to make, but also fun to put together. And I think they look great! Plus it’s a very frugal craft that will not break the bank.
What you Need:
Uncooked white rice
White vinegar
Red and blue food coloring
Candles
Containers to hold the candles
What you Do:
First you will need to figure out how much rice you will need to fill your candle container. Since this can be made in a variety of sizes, that will differ for everyone. Then divide your rice into 3 equal piles. Put one pile to the side. This will be your “white” rice.
Next find a couple bowls large enough to each hold 1/3 of the rice and the water. Combine 1/3 of uncooked white rice in each bowl with enough water to cover the rice by about 1/4 inch. Add about 2 teaspoons red food coloring to one, and 2 teaspoons of blue food coloring to the other, and about 1 tablespoon of vinegar to each.
Stir each and let sit until rice is the color you want it to be. This will take about 30 minutes. Then drain the water from the rice and pour out the rice onto a paper towel lined baking sheet to dry. Drying will take about 8 hours. Will be best if you can let dry overnight.
These are great decorations for your indoor or outdoor table. And as the evening gets darker, the candles will look great. Make one or a group. These would also make a fun hostess gift if you are attending a 4th of July party at someone else’s house.
