Target to Suspend In-Store Sales of Pokemon Cards and Sports Trading Cards
A few years ago, my son was obsessed with Pokemon cards! His friends would trade them at school and he had quite the collection. Every time he went with me to Target, we had to check out the Pokemon Card section. We’ve been noticing that it’s harder to find them in stock at Target and other retailers. Pokemon and Sport’s Card have grown in popularity during the pandemic and that has caused a supply and demand problem. This means that these cards are worth money and some of them are worth serious money.
Collectors and those looking to make a profit know when the shelves are going to be stocked with new products and so they wait at the store for employees to stock the shelves. These cards can easily be flipped for a profit and that has caused fights in the stores and even the parking lots.
Target officials have stated “Out of an abundance of caution” they will no longer sell Pokemon and Sports Trading Cards in-store effective May 14. You will still be able to find these cards online.
As of now, Walmart has not made any changes to in-store card sales. You can shop Walmart Trading Cards here.
