If you are planning to camp this spring or summer, here are some amazing items to pick up at your local Dollar Tree. These are camping hacks using Dollar Tree items. Enjoying the outdoors doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg.
Here are affordable camping gear items to pick up and have with your gear the next time you head out for the good ol’ outdoors. Some of these items are great RV camping gear as well!
Dollar Tree Item Camping Ideas
1.) Rope
Bundle kindling for the fire or use for a clothesline to dry swimming suits. If you are looking for something similar you can snag rope on Amazon and ship it right to your home.
2.) Toothbrush Holder
Use it to carry drinking straws! My kids love drinking out of straws!
3.) Muffin Tin
Use it to cook eggs over the fire! Bonus points if you add ham underneath to make ham and egg cups!
4.) Contact paper
If you’re camping with an RV, use contact paper for an instant update!! It is affordable, okay if it gets tore up in the RV and great. Now, they are limited on styles. But, I found some more available on Amazon. I found a marble contact paper that is pretty.
5.) Flexible Ties
This is SO handy to loop fishing rods together for travel if you’ll be fishing while you camp! We buy these and even use to secure phone cords. You can also buy these on Amazon if you want.
6.) Mini Notebook
We might not have phone service while out camping, so we use these mini notebooks from Dollar Tree to update family members if we leave the campsite and where we’re going.
7.) Bandana
Sometimes, it is HOT while we’re camping! My kids love to dip the bandana in the lake and tie it around their necks to stay cool! You can also buy a lot and use them as napkins that you can bring home and wash! Amazon has a 14 piece pack that is a decent price.
8.) Chip Bag Clip
Whenever we go camping, we love to stop and grab paper maps of the hiking trails, and brochures about things to do in the area. It’s always helpful to clip them all together so they don’t end up all over the campsite or discarded in the car.
9.) Plastic Baskets
These are so helpful for organizing condiments and ingredients so they don’t roll off the picnic table. Also, check out how I made a homeschool station with these fun baskets as well from the Dollar Tree.
10.) Frisbee
Out in the woods, this toy doubles as a cutting board! I realized this when I realized I forgot ours one time and I was looking for something to use to cut up fruit on. Viola! It worked so perfectly and I have been using it ever since. It is much lighter than my normal cutting board.
11.) Plastic Bags
We always keep our toilet paper in a plastic bag so it doesn’t get unrolled or wasted! Consider buying these in all sizes so you can maximize your storage.
12.) Poncho
Whenever it’s sprinkling, it’s super easy to throw an inexpensive and thin Dollar Tree poncho over our supplies on a table rather than bring everything inside. Usually, the rain passes through quickly where we are, so we haven’t had to move everything back and forth!
13.) Tongs
Whenever we cook with foil bundles in the campfire, we always use tongs to grab them so we don’t burn our hands!
14.) Foil Pans
These are so great for cooking over a fire! If you don’t have a cast-iron skillet, these are inexpensive and a perfect substitute!
15.) Door Alarm
It always makes me feel safer when I add one of these to my RV!! I wouldn’t hold a ton of value in these, but all in all it could be nice to have just in case.
16.) Dog Waste Bags
These are perfect mini laundry bags for my kids!! They hold a wet swimming suit better than anything and they’re super cheap, too!
17.) Plant Label
I love using these to label different salads if we’re camping with other people and having a potluck! They’re also great for sticking in the ground to identify boundaries you’d like your kids to stay in while you’re camping!
18.) Pill Dispenser
I love using these for seasonings so I don’t have to bring an entire bottle of spices and herbs with me while camping!
19.) Lawn Ornament
It might seem silly to take one of these camping, but posting one of these at the edge of our campsite makes it super easy for our kids (and me, if we’re being honest!) to instantly pick out which campsite is ours. I always tell them, “Look for the flower!”
20.) Pool Noodles
These are great for cutting up and placing on your tent supports so people see them and don’t run into them!
21.) Clamp
These are great for clamping the trash bag to the picnic table during cleanup!
22.) Bungee Cords
If you bring fishing poles, bungee cords are GREAT for running over the top of the inside of your SUV, secured to each passenger’s upper handle. We use that space to store or fishing rods above our heads! We have one bungee in the front and one in the back and we never even notice our fishing poles above our heads!
23.) Skewers
These are great for camping kebabs!! There are so many good recipes out there!
24.) Shower Curtain Liner
This is great if you’re camping near a beach. We like to hollow out a big hole in the sand, place the shower curtain liner in it, and fill it with water. It makes the perfect place for our littlest ones to safely play without getting in the lake!
25.) Push Light
This is great for the side of the camper door! It’s nice to have a light for my kids to play by in addition to the decorative ones we string up at our campsite!
