I love making my own household products, and this Homemade Fabric Softener is no exception. It is inexpensive, and made from all natural products I already have around the house.
You may not know you already have a natural fabric softener in your kitchen cabinets. Vinegar can not only soften the items in your washing machine, it can help remove soap residue sometimes left behind plus can reduce the amount of static found on your clothing after removing them from the dryer. And it’s so easy to make!
What you need:
Vinegar
Essential Oil
How to use:
Mix together about a gallon of white vinegar with approximately 30 drops of essential oil. I like to use orange or lavender.
You can add the mixture to a Downy ball and throw it into the washing machine, or pour the mixture into your fabric softener dispenser.
You can also just pour vinegar in each time and add a few drops of essential oils. About a half cup of vinegar or a Downy ball full is all you need. Using this method you can try out different essential oils each time, or you may find you like different ones for your clothes versus maybe a load of towels.
It is sometimes the simpilest things that work the best, and that is definitely the case with this homemade fabric softenener recipe! White vinegar is something we always have on hand in our panty, along with a large variety of essential oils. So it’s so easy to mix up a batch whenever it’s needed.
