I wanted to share a tip with you today about How to keep Facebook Coupons from Showing in your Friend’s News Feed! This is one of my frustrations with the increase in Facebook Coupons, I love that they are High Value Coupons which normally mean Awesome Deals, but every time I turn around someone wants me to share a coupon, giveaway, free sample with all my friends.
I don’t know about you, but I hate cluttering my personal feed with coupon offers and random brands promotions. So here’s a trick that I use that helps me keep these things out of my news feed.
When you see a coupon that requires sharing on Facebook to increase the value of a coupon follow these simple steps to Change the Settings on the Facebook Privacy Settings and make sure your friends don’t see this in their news feed.
Step 1: Click the Share Button and choose the Facebook Sharing option
Step 2: Look for the drop down next to the Share Button and click on Custom. This is the drop down that controls who sees your status update.
Step 3: Once you have selected custom, choose the Only Me Option. That is what allows you to share to your wall without anyone else seeing the status update, You will be the only person who is able to see the update. Save Changes and go ahead and share the coupon now.
Step 4: Print your Coupon. Facebook Privacy Settings don’t affect your ability to print the coupon, the company can only tell that you shared the coupon to your wall, they can’t track who you shared it with.
You can double check that the post is shared under the “Only Me” setting by looking at your own profile, you should see the Striped Lines at the top and bottom of the status update.
Cool – I’ve always wondered if they could tell if I only shared it with myself :)
