Items You Need to Make A Homemade Kaleidoscope
- Pringles Can
- Patterned paper or cardstock
- Double-sided tape (or glue)
- Hammer
- Nail (or something pointy!)
- Patriotic sequins or small beads
- Clear cellophane (or clear cling wrap)
- Scissors
- Washi tape
- Foil
How To Make Kaleidoscope
Step 1: Start by taking your patterned paper and wrap around your can, and secure with the double-sided tape. Then turn the can on the bottom and use a hammer and nail to poke a hole in the bottom for a peephole.
Step 2: Now you will work on the kaleidoscope portion the full steps for this are in the printable card below. But you will cut foil to place in can. Then make a triangle so the points touch the inside edge.
Step 3: Using the plastic lid as a template, cut a circle of cellophane, leaving about ¼ inch extra cellophane around the lid. The circle of cellophane will be slightly larger than the lid.
Wrap double-sided tape along the outside of the top edge of the Pringles can and stick the circle of cellophane on it.
Step 4: Sprinkle plenty of patriotic sequins on top of the cellophane (but do not glue them down!)
Step 5: Place the plastic lid back on top of the Pringles can and use washi tape to secure the lid on top of the cellophane and the can. You might need to do two rows of tape to be sure it is secure.
Look through your kaleidoscope!
Fun Craft For Kids
If you have kids let them join in and help make the craft fully or find they can help with certain steps of the craft. Either way they will love peeking into the scope and turning it around to see what shapes and designs they can find inside.
