Solar S’mores are fun twist on the campfire classic we all know and love! In the summertime, I’m always looking for ways to get my kiddos outside and keep them busy. This idea doubles as a treat! I have seen so many other solar ovens for kids, but they have all required cutting out the top. I thought, why not use a donut box from our local superstore?! The top is already cut out and has a ready-made cellophane window. Scroll down for details!
How to Make Solar S’mores
Of course, you need the traditional graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate bar. But, you also need a few supplies to make the solar oven.
Supplies for a No-Cut Solar S’mores Activity
- Graham Crackers
- Marshmallows
- Chocolate Bar
- Empty Donut Box with Cellophane Lid – I think the half-dozen size box which would fit six donuts works the best! I found my box at Walmart, but I believe some gas stations also have donut boxes like this.
- Foil
- Double-Sided Tape – This is totally optional, but if you need some extra help to make your foil stay put, feel free to use it!
Instructions for No-Cut Solar S’mores Activity for Kids
First, empty the donuts out of the donut box. (That shouldn’t be too hard, right?! Ha!) Next, tear off a piece of foil larger than the donut box. Press the foil down into the donut box like you’re lining a pan to bake with, making sure the foil covers both the bottom and sides of the box. Fold the excess foil over the edges. You may use tape or glue if you prefer to ensure the foil stays in one spot. But it really isn’t needed!
Next, place a graham cracker, chocolate square, and marshmallow into the no-cut solar oven. It took our s’mores about 30 minutes to get the marshmallows melty enough where they could squish down properly. Of course, depending on how hot it is where you live, it might take longer.
VERY IMPORTANT: Pick up the s’more for your child, if needed. The chocolate or the solar oven could be too hot for them to handle. You might need to wait a few minutes for the s’more to cool down before letting your younger kiddos eat them!
Place the other graham cracker on top of the marshmallow and press it down, making your solar s’more. Enjoy!
I can’t wait for you to try this easy version of a classic! The fact that you don’t have to cut anything out makes this project SUPER simple!
