If you are looking for a way to keep the kids entertained this summer check out this Washable Chalk Paint for Kids. My kids spent HOURS “Painting” The fence in the back yard and even when they were finished they were still asking for more paint. The best part is that the “Chalk Paint” washes away with the hose or the next rain so they can do it again!
Here’s what you will need:
Paint Brushes (I found super cheap ones for $1 at Walmart)
Paint Trays or Buckets for the paint
Washable Chalk of any Kind
A Grater (I recommend on that you are not using for food, Check the Dollar store for something inexpensive)
Start by grating your chalk into your paint bucket. A simple food grater will work great but just remember to use something you don’t plan to use on food again, You can get cheap ones at the dollar store and Walmart.
Add 1/2 Cup of Water for every stick of Chalk you Use. That makes a good liquid consistency but it isn’t too watery.
Let your kids Paint Away! The paint will look really dark at first, but when it drys it will have a brighter chalky look! You can paint Words, etc. but my kids are young and they just enjoyed pretending they were painting the fence like it was a wall. They really spent hours going to town on the fence, and they are already begging to do this again!
One quick note: If you don’t want to go through the process of making the chalk paint we have also done a similar activity with buckets filled with water and paint brushes. They can “Paint” the water on the fence and it drys away. My kids didn’t care if there was real paint or not when they were little but they are getting older where the colors make a big difference.
