There are seasons during life that get really busy for our family, during those times it can be hard to keep your house clean or even find time to stop and clean the entire house at the same time. So I created this weekly cleaning checklist, it’s a reminder of what I need to get done each day and I can check of each task as I do it, I also know that I don’t have to stop and do all of these at once, I can do one task in the morning before the kids head to school, one in the afternoon before I pick them up and one at night while I’m watching TV. Just pick a time that fits in your busy routine and knock out one item at a time.
One of the things that has always worked really well for me is to set a timer and a specific task, by knowing I only need 10-15 minutes to complete a task it’s easier for me to focus and concentrate on the job at hand.
Here are a few tips for keeping a Daily Cleaning Schedule:
1. Set aside a Pick Up Time every afternoon. {10 Minutes} For me the time that works best is late afternoon before my husband comes home. This is the time of day that helps me feel the most accomplished, I don’t worry about the kids playing all morning or day if I know we will get it picked up before Daddy walks in the door. So we always pick up around 4:45 in the afternoon, it also helps to have a more organized evening and family time.
2. Do Laundry Every Day. {15 Minutes} I know there is some debate on this topic because a lot of my friends like to have a “Laundry Day” But for me doing Laundry every day is easier to keep up with and I never have Mounds of Laundry to fold and put away. Once again setting a timer helps me here because it’s easier to Start a load of laundry and fold one in about 15 minutes. Then I’m done and I can move on with my day!
3. Pick one Weekly Task per day. {15 Minutes} I often find it hard to set aside multiple hours to clean my house so choosing just one task per day can make it easier to keep up with the entire house. I like to break it down by Dusting, Sweeping & Moping, Vacuuming, Showers & Tubs, Bathrooms.
I like to have a general guideline of what to do each day, I find it takes less mental energy if I already have a plan in place so I work on Whites, Darks, Lights, Towels and Sheets all on separate days. Sometimes things like Sheets can’t all fit in one load, you can either do multiple loads of sheets, do some on the weekends, or just do 2 rooms per week or something like that. Divide it up and do what works for you! This is just a general guideline to get you started.
4. Clean your Kitchen every night. {10 Minutes} I have to admit it’s hard for me to go to bed with a dirty kitchen, I just love waking up to a clean kitchen and starting the day fresh each morning. I like to clean the kitchen up every night after dinner so it’s ready to go for the next day.
After I put away the dishes from dinner I take about 10 minutes to Pick up the counter-tops, Put away any mail or paper and wipe down the counters and stove so it’s ready for the next day. These extra steps only take about 10 minutes and they help keep up with the clutter that typically piles up in my kitchen.
5. Empty the Dishwasher Every Morning. {5 Minutes} This actually makes a good chore for the kids :) But I have found if I start with an empty dishwasher in the morning it’s easier to remember to put away dirty dishes rather than leaving them in the sink. It’s just a good habit that helps you stay more organized and keeps clutter out of sight.
