I love patriotic ideas for kids like this 4th of July Handprint Flag Shirt. It’s a fun activity PLUS it doubles as something to wear to all of the 4th of July BBQ and fireworks events! I like this activity because there’s no right way to do it. You can use your favorite shades of red or blue and also any shade of red, blue, white, or gray shirt! Everyone in the family could have a matching shirt OR have all different types of red, white and blue!
How to Make 4th of July Handprint Flag Shirts
This is one of the clever projects which require only a few supplies, but are super cute!
Supplies and Tools for a 4th of July Flag Shirts
- Plain T-Shirt
- Acrylic Craft Paint – In a shades of red, white and blue!
- Textile Medium – This is important to mix with the paint so the paint won’t wash out of the t-shirts.
- Paint Brush
Instructions for Red White and Blue Handprint T-Shirts
First, combine the acrylic paint with the textile medium (or fabric medium) and mix well. Next, paint the left or right hand in a shade of blue to match the shirt color you chose and place it on the upper-left section of the shirt. Next, paint on red stripes to complete the American flag look. You can paint wavy stripes like the flag is waving in the wind or straight lines for stripes. I liked how the straight lines looked the best, so that’s what we made at our house!
Depending on the color of the shirt, you could add white stripes, as well, but it still looks great with just the red stripes.
We’d love to see your 4th of July Handprint Flag Shirts if you try it!
