What Type of Meatballs To Use
Ultimately the choice is yours. You can use homemade meatballs or pre-made. Just make sure the meatballs are fully cooked, or cook them as directed on the package, if they are not.
Then move forward with assembling the sandwiches and putting in the oven.
How to Make Meatball Subs
Full directions for this recipe are in the printable recipe card. This area is a visual walk-through on how to make your meatball subs.
The first step is to preheat the oven as directed in the recipe card. Then in a bowl mix your pre-cooked meatballs with marinara sauce. Make sure all the meatballs are nice and coated.
Slice your hoagies in half and then on one side add a few meatballs and some sauce. You can add as many as you want depending on the size of your hoagie rolls you are using.
Next you will add on the cheese. As you can see I added a good amount of cheese. It will melt down and create the perfect cheesy sub sandwich.
Bake as directed and once done add on some fresh parsley if you want and serve up these crave-worthy sandwich shop inspired sandwiches.
What to Serve With Meatball Subs
- Chips
- Fresh Veggies
- French Fries
- Etc.
You can honestly serve your meatball hoagies with anything you want. We tend to do chips or vegetables depending on what we have on hand.
What Type of Bread To Use
For this recipe I used a classic hoagie roll. You are welcome to use any roll that you can slice open. Or if you want to transform this into a slider use slider buns. Then do 1 meatball per dinner roll.
Another option would be to use a store bought garlic bread. This would add a bit of change to the flavor of the subs, but it would be absolutely delicious I am sure.
Storing Leftovers
You will want to store the meatballs in a container on their own. And then keep the bread plain until ready to assemble and heat up. If you happen to have a pre-made sandwich you will find it sogs up the bread, and you will need to toss the bread out as it will be too mushy after it is stored for a few hours in the fridge.
