This New Year’s Eve Ball Drop Breakfast is so easy, which is perfect, because by the time New Year rolls around and we’ve celebrated *all the things* already, I’m usually ready to simplify our festive family times! You can make homemade donut holes and muffins, or you can just use store-bought, like I did! The donut hole at the top of the straw really looks like the famous New Year’s Eve ball that we watch in NYC! Make it extra fun by placing the muffins on a platter covered in sprinkles.
How to Make this New Year’s Eve Ball Drop Breakfast Idea
You literally only need three things! Well, if you’re purchasing your donut holes and muffins already made, that is. Homemade would taste better, but making muffins and donuts might be the last thing I’d want to do after staying up until after midnight! Ha ha!
Supplies
- Straws – These paper straws are perfect!
- Large Muffins – I tried using the mini muffins and they just didn’t work for this project. You really need the weight of the normal-sized muffin to anchor the straw holding the donut hole.
- Donut Holes – I found some fun sprinkle ones! You could always add sprinkles, if you want them, though.
- Scissors
Instructions
Of course, this is pretty self explanatory, but I do have a few tips for you that will help! First, cut an inch off the end of each paper straw. It just looked too long in my opinion without doing that.
Next, gently place the straw inside the donut hole. Twist the straw if the donut hole doesn’t give way at first. If you press too hard, you’ll crumble the donut.
Lastly, insert the straw straight down into the top of the muffin. Be sure it’s straight or your ball drop will look crooked!
You can place them on a pretty platter or simply at each place at the table. It’s such a colorful, fun, and easy idea for New Year! You could certainly have this on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day. Add a bowl of fruit and you’re good to go!
