Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls are my family’s new breakfast tradition for Valentine’s Day!! I love that I can make them the night before and they’re ready for a busy school day holiday breakfast. Better yet, the base for this recipe is a red velvet cake mix, so I like that I don’t have to add any extra red food coloring, too. These are SO easy to make and so perfect for a Valentine Breakfast. Just be sure that you plan for the time it takes for these to rise!!
How to Make Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls
Having a base of a red velvet cake mix makes this recipe such a quick and easy one, despite the time it takes for the dough to rise, of course! You only need a handful of really simple ingredients to make these Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls
Ingredients for Red Velvet Cake Mix Cinnamon Rolls
- Red Velvet Cake Mix
- Flour
- Instant Yeast
- Warm Water – Make sure the water is lukewarm. If it is too hot, it will kill the yeast and the rolls will not rise.
- Brown Sugar, packed
- Ground Cinnamon
- Butter
- Powdered Sugar
- Cream Cheese
- Vanilla
- Heavy Whipping Cream
Instructions for Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls
Combine cake mix, 1 cup flour and yeast. Add water; beat on medium speed 2 minutes. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough (dough will be sticky).
Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead gently 6-8 times. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Next, cover the dough and then let it rise in a warm place until doubled, about 2 hours. Meanwhile, in another bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon.
Punch down dough. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; roll dough into an 18×10-in. rectangle.
Brush with melted butter to within 1/4 in. of edges; sprinkle with sugar mixture. Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a long side; pinch seam to seal. Cut crosswise into 12 slices.
Place cut sides up in a greased 13×9-in. baking pan. Cover with a kitchen towel; let rise in a warm place until almost doubled, about 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350°. Bake until puffed and turning golden, 15-20 minutes. Cool slightly before adding glaze.
For the glaze, beat confectioners’ sugar, cream cheese, butter, vanilla and enough heavy whipping cream to reach a drizzling consistency. Drizzle icing over the warm rolls. Serve immediately!
