These Valentine Jell-o Hearts are SUCH a cute snack for Valentine’s Day! I love making fun recipes like this with my kids, but they also would make for a sweet surprise for after school, too! It might look complicated to get a perfect heart in the middle, but I promise you, it’s so easy! Scroll down for my tips below.
How to Make Valentine Jell-o Hearts
My kids love making Jell-o because there are only a few ingredients needed!
Ingredients for Valentine Jell-o Hearts
- Red Jell-o – I used cherry flavor, but you can use strawberry, raspberry, or any kind you like best!
- Unflavored Gelatin
- Water – You need both boiling water and cold water for this recipe.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk
Instructions for Valentine Jell-O Heart Snacks
First, spray a 8 x 8 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Then pour the red Jell-0 into a medium heat-safe mixing bowl and add 2 cups of boiling water. Stir the mixture until it has dissolved. Pour into the baking pan and refrigerate for 2 hours or until set. After it’s set, invert red Jell-O pan onto wax paper or a cutting board.
With a small heart cookie cutter, cut hearts out of the Jell-o. Cut as many hearts as you’d like to use. You will most likely not use all of them due to space, though, but you may use as many of them as you like.
After the red Jell-o is set, you’ll begin making the white gelatin. In another medium mixing bowl, add 1/4 cup cold water. Sprinkle the plain gelatin packet over the top and let it stand for several minutes. Stir in 3/4 cups boiling water and sweetened condensed milk until well combined. Allow to cool completely so it won’t melt the red hearts. This step is very important! You want it to cool enough to where it won’t melt the Jell-o hearts, but not cool too MUCH or else it will be too gloppy to pour.
Spray the baking pan with cooking spray again. Arrange the red hearts in the pan, taking care to leave room for white part of the Jello, as well.
Lastly, pour condensed milk mixture around the hearts and place the pan in the refrigerator for several hours until completely firm. Remove from pan and cut into squares.
And that’s it! Aren’t they cute? I can’t wait for you to try making these!
