How to Make 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats
These patriotic Rice Krispie treats only need a few ingredients, which you’re probably already familiar with!
Ingredients for 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats
- Butter, divided
- Mini marshmallows, divided
- Rice Krispies cereal, divided
- Vanilla, divided
- Red and blue gel food coloring – This is the exact food coloring I always use. The colors are true to the label and very vibrant!
Instructions for 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats
First, line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper. Spray lightly with cooking spray and set aside. In a large microwave safe bowl, melt 1/4 cup of butter for about 30 seconds or until completely melted. Add 5 cups of marshmallows and stir. Melt in 30 second intervals until completely melted, stirring often. Add ½ teaspoon of vanilla and either the blue food coloring or the red food coloring first, a few drops at a time, and mix well. Continue adding food coloring and stirring until the desired color intensity for your 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats is reached.
After that, mix in 4 cups of the cereal. Stir until thoroughly mixed. Pour into the parchment-lined pan. Spread evenly and press down firmly. (If needed, coat a large spoon or your fingers with butter or cooking spray so the krispie treats don’t stick while you’re pressing them down.)
Next, repeat the same process, but this time leave the second batch white with no food coloring and press down firmly over the blue layer. Repeat the same process with the red layer on top of the white layer. Let your 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats cool completely at room temperature.
Remove the treats from the pan, peel off the parchment paper and place on a cutting board. Lastly, cut treats into star shapes using a cookie cutter. Serve immediately. You may store them, covered, for up to a week. (Although at my house, Rice Krispie treats never last an entire week! Ha!)
How many days ahead can you make Rice Krispy Treats?
I would make them no more than three days ahead of an event. That way, they’re extra fresh and not at all stale. Store them covered in a room temperature or cool area or individually wrapped for best results!
