How to Make Red Velvet Cake Mix Krispie Hearts
I love that all of these ingredients are simple and that you only need a few!
Ingredients for Red Velvet Rice Krispies Treats
- Butter
- Mini marshmallows
- Red velvet cake mix – Don’t use the whole bag of cake mix! Be sure to look at the proper amount in the ingredients list.
- Rice Krispies cereal
- Sprinkles – These are optional, of course. But they do indeed look festive!
- This isn’t an ingredient, but you’ll need a heart cookie cutter for this recipe, too.
Instructions for Red Velvet Rice Krispies Hearts
First, cut up the butter in slices. This will help it melt faster and more evenly. Place the butter in a large microwave-safe bowl and melt in 30-second intervals until completely melted.
After that, add the marshmallows to the bowl and stir will to distribute the butter throughout all of them. Microwave in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until marshmallows are melted. Add red velvet cake mix and stir well. Add Rice Krispies and stir well. Due to the addition of the red velvet cake mix, it seems the krispie treats firm up quicker than the traditional rice krispie treats, so be mindful of how long it takes you to mix and press into the pan.
Lastly, spoon out the Rice Krispies mixture into a greased 9×13 baking pan. Spray cooking spray on your palms or on the back of a spatula so the marshmallow mixture won’t stick to everything.
Press down and add sprinkles if you’re doing so. Let set completely. Cut out with a cookie cutter.
